An advertiser wants to put up some gif banners on forumosa, but they’re blinking a little fast, IMO. Is there a recommended speed for this? Is there a webpage where they have examples of banners blinking at different speeds? Any help on this would be most welcome.
I don’t think there are any standards. How quickly is this one changing?
There aren’t any standard flashing rates for animated gifs. You can make them flash as much or as little as you wish. When creating an animated gif, you just have to play with the frame rates until you get something you’re happy with. For example, I’ve been working on an animated gif for Bismarck, but it hasn’t been going well because I can’t get the animation (frame delay) to look right. I’m just going to have to keep editing it until I get the animation I’m looking for.
Here’s a page and an example from that page which I feel overuses the animated gifs and takes away from the page. Waaaay too cheery for a prison page, but hey…here is Taiwan! :roflmao:
Frame delay = 10 (1/100 sec.) = .10 seconds.
I slowed it down. Frame delay = 30 (1/100 sec.) = .30 seconds
For your situation, you have to determine whether or not the advertiser’s banner gif compliments your forum. If it looks too fast for your liking, simply tell them to slow down the animation (frame delay). You’re the boss!
Here are some more examples to look at, just for fun. Are these distracting? :roflmao:
Frame delay = 25 (1/100 sec.) = .25 seconds
Frame delay = 10 (1/100 sec.) = .10 seconds
Frame delay = 2 (1/100 sec.) = .02 seconds

The proposed animated gifs you posted are good. I don’t think they are too blinky. Pretty nice artwork.
