We’re having a Christmas get together and I’ve got everything covered for the traditional dinner and most of the guests. Problem is, my in-laws are coming and they are vegetarian (additionally, they don’t eat any kind of onion or garlic - something about it exciting the senses). Does anyone know of a good restaurant where I can get some dishes to take out? We would like them to try something a bit western and different from the usual vegetarian stuff they eat. Help! Any suggestions?
dogan vindaloo, but without the garlic.
There are many Buddhist vegetarian places (no onion, ginger, or garlic) around. You could peruse the menus for ideas to adapt for Western taste?
Prepare western vegetarian dishes and omit the garlic, ginger, onion and hot peppers. Adjust any remaining flavors and spices to compensate for this of course.
For western veg, you can’t go wrong with Italian. Pasta dishes, lasagne etc are all pretty much the same in terms of preparation with only a few different basic ingredients needed, most of which you’ll probably have on hand anyway (mushrooms, carrots etc). Here’s a recipe for veg. spaghetti bolognese. Just omit the garlic/onion and you’re good to go.
Mixed broccoli and cauliflower au gratin. Use a good strong cheese.
Asparagus spears simply fried in a little olive oil, then a splash of Worcestershire sauce for the last minute. Molto yummy.
Eggplant lasagna (or mix the recipes for moussaka and lasagna).

Lea & Perrins worcestershire sauce lists among its ingredients: anchovies, onions and garlic. :no-no:
Just wondering if you can go to theirs and ask for a meal with meat?
Otherwise a flavorless chickpea curry or pesto on toast. Seriously if you’re a half competent cook you should be able to knock up a mixed veg stir-fry
How about some of those veg stuff from Mr. Sausage? You can get them frozen.

They’d never need to know that.
