Football World Cup 2010

I don’t know if this has been bandied around the forums yet, so here goes.

At 7 o’clock this evening (I think, it’s midday CET), the announcement for the host country for the World Cup in 2010 will be made. Four years ago South Africans were absolutely crushed when it was awarded to Germany, but hey, maybe the extra four years is what we needed. In 2010, the country will be an African one for the first time (so we won’t have to worry about Terror Firmer pile-driving anyone up in the stands. Heavy sighs of relief all around), and the bidding countries are South Africa, Morocco, Libya, Egypt and Tunisia.

This is from the Inspection Group Report, and there is a downloadable PDF file here

Summaries of each country’s bid are as follows:

South Africa : [quote]Despite questions about security in the country, the legacy compared to the investment needed will be a great contribution to the country. The Inspection Group

If SA can get Nelson Mandela to make an appearance then they should get up. He has a name that can be traded on.

The only thing I can see getting in the way is FIFA politics. Sepp Blatter is a real snake in the grass. If FIFA were a body that made logical choices then SA would get the green light for sure.

Good luck.

What’s the time differnce between SA and Taiwan?
Davidla

Congratulations to South Africa!

My Sun Clock program gives SA time as 6 hours behind the time here, so for example it’s 9.43am in Taiwan right now and 3.43am in SA.

I don’t know whether SA has daylight saving time, which would lead to a 1 hour variation in the time difference between the winter and the summer.

sa has no daylight saving time. SA is six hours behind Taiwan. The time zone GMT+2

What did I say? Get Nelson Mandela involved and it’s a shoo-in!

Who cares about the so-called “World Cup” besides under-developed nations and European has-beens and wannabes? I sure don’t.

It’s true, it’s true.

I’m so sad that Terror Firmer removed his “home video of ma maw fallin’ off the roof of ma trailer” signature. At least the ultrasound avatar is still there.

And I am so glad that you view football with this kind of exclusivity. So we shouldn’t get you any tickets, then? Really, not even one? Such a shame.

Err, doesn’t that include almost everyone, then?!

It’s countdown to Europ 2004…

Any football fans out there would know if one of the Taiwan’s TV cable networks, ESPN, StarTV, Era, Videoland, or others will carry the Euro 2004 games ?

It’s coming up next month !
