Anyway, I recently started a side gig of importing cosmetics from my home country.
Some information about the Bulgarian rose oil, and rose water, which are used in all of those cosmetics:
Bulgarian Rose Oil provides rich moisturisation because its essential oil compounds contain lipids which lock in moisture the body would otherwise lose from the skin
through evaporation. This provides a long-lasting hydration for the skin, and makes it look smoother and more youthful.
The Rosa Damascena species has been cultivated in Bulgaria for nearly four centuries, and Bulgaria’s Rose Valley region produces the highest quality rose essential oils in the world, due to perfected production techniques and the properties of the Bulgarian rose itself, which has been shaped by generations of careful cultivation and from Bulgaria’s unique geography.
Companies such as Chanel, Kenzo, Estee Lauder, Dior and many others use Bulgarian rose oil in their products.
The high cost of rose oil is due in part to the extraction process. Approximately 1 500 000 rose blossoms are necessary to make one kilogram of Bulgarian Rose Oil. After the roses are hand-picked from a field, they are immediately sent to a distillery. Essential oil extraction begins while the blossoms are at their peak, still fresh and fragrant. To retain the correct properties of the essential oil, highly trained specialists use a steam distillation method. Authentic Bulgarian rose flower water, prominent for its anti-acne and anti-aging properties is a distillate extracted from steam distillation. Pure Bulgarian rose water is not a by-product, it is a quality products in its own right.
For all of these outstanding and unique qualities, the denomination “Bulgarian Rose oil” is recognized within the EU as a Protected Geographical Indication according to EU Regulation No. 1151/2012
The natural Bulgarian rose oil produced from the company I work with won natural product of the year at the Beautyworld expo held in Dubai in 2020
