洋腸 Foreign Sausage in the Taiwanese Media

Taiwanese is now not holding back referring to Western men as 洋腸。Before it was just Apple Daily, but the recent story of the guy recording his trip to bang lots of girls in Asia over a year has seen pretty much every news source use the term nownews.com/n/2015/12/24/1933603 .

Comments are obviously depressing.

Is this only going to get worse? Can Taiwanese media get any lower? Do you think this increased insecurity and xenophobia is related to Taiwan’s failing economy?

“Foreign Sausage” sounds awesome  I know what to tell my wife tonight!

Don’t be surprised if she suddenly turns vegetarian.

I’d be quite shocked!

I’m already planning to re-enact the scene from Bachelor Party (the Tom Hanks movie) with Nick the Dick. It will be glorious.

Its at least pretty awful, no? Or have we all kind of given up hope for Taiwan.

I’m sorry, it’s very difficult for me to feel offended, and I’ll very rarely pay attention to this sort of stuff. Also, I think that “foreign sausage” is not as bad as other racial slurs out there, so I can live with that.

Its not a very encouraging trend though. Not offended per se, but the veneer of xenophobia in the Taiwanese media is a worry. Pretty disgraceful on the whole.

One of the greatest movies of all time!

Media in Europe:
A local commits an homicide:“He had problems”
An immigrant commits a burglary:“Immigrants problem, they’re a source of crime, there’s not enough control, people are scared”

Media in the US:
A white man goes full postal:“He had problems”
A black man commits any kind of crime:“He clearly committed that because of his social background, the police was right to shoot him”

It works like that everywhere in the world. That doesn’t make it right, but as ling as the media doesn’t interfere with my sausage action I don’t really mind.

No it doesnt though. You dont see major news outlets in the US and Europe, littering the news headlines with Racial epithets.

The day after the attack in Paris. It’s in Italian, but I guess there’s no need to translate it. That was the front page.

  1. Islam is not a race
  2. I was talking about proper countries

2) I was talking about proper countries[/quote]

Which means Taiwan should not be included, considering that for most other countries it doesn’t even exist!

I also dont live in Italy. The foreign sausage stuff used to be reserved to PTT and Facebook, but now the mainstream media feels pretty comfortable to run headlines with it. Pretty easy to see there will be more MRT outbursts and the like.

Sounds like you’re getting pretty strung out there, brother.
I know I’m not your doctor, but if I WERE your doctor, I’d probably suggest you take a year off and travel around Asia boning really mediocre-looking women.

ha, I dont care. But its pretty evident. Went from 外國人 to 歪果仁 to 洋腸 in the space of a few years. Hard to imagine Taiwanese media getting any lower.

It seems from your Google search for 洋腸 that you posted that term is reserved for those 2 d-bags that are making the videos and not really using it for other foreigners.

I may have missed the articles, but the only time I’ve seen 歪果仁 was that music video that was going around recently.
