Foreigners and Taiwanese Politics

I find it interesting to observe that foreigners seem heavily skewed towards supporting the DPP so I’m making this thread out of curiosity to find out how true that is and understand why that is the case.
On the surface there doesn’t seem to be any obvious reasons for it. I have some theories but I’ll keep that to myself for now.

Since Taiwanese politics is mainly divided by the issue of independence/reunification and Taiwanese/Chinese identity, and since I’m neither, it doesn’t really feel like my place to take a strong position even if I have some mild opinions on the matter.
It seems that there’s not really any obvious differences in policy that I’m aware of on other issues - or at least that’s the perception I have as someone who’s not heavily invested in it.

My take: Many foreigners living in Taiwan specifically chose living in Taiwan over living in China - so they oppose a unification which would make Taiwan more like China (especially in terms of lack of democracy, lack of (internet) freedom, …).

I know that it’s not so clear cut these days, but I understood that at least traditionally most KMT supporters have little desire for Taiwan to be under CCP rule

That doesn’t mean they are not pro unificarion. They just don’t want to be under the communists.

I know. If foreigners were concerned about losing the freedoms they have in Taiwan then if that were the case I don’t see any reason for that to preclude KMT support or at least indifference.
So I think there’s more to it than that.

Be careful. Details might be being taken.

I’m CCP, by the way.

The main reason they don’t want to be under the CCP is because it’s a different power base not like Taiwan being run by a few corrupt family dynasties. Those families would be at severe risk.
