Foreigners avoiding each other

You could also be mistaking a pre-existing scowl on someone’s face for them glaring specifically at you. I often get perturbed by something that has just happened (usually a car nearly flattening me while crossing in the crosswalk, but sometimes some actually disgusting old man trying to talk to me) and continue to carry that expression for a while. I don’t really care about what strangers think of my facial expressions, nor do I think about the expression on my face unless someone I actually know asks if I’m OK. Thank god I don’t get “smile for me” like I do in every major US city, like I’m supposed to be happy for the sake of some random low self-esteem man on the street.

Can only grow a pretty shit beard to be honest, but wowee I’m trying.

I have occasionally initiated some head nods with some other foreigners - so far mixed results, but at least I feel better for trying? I imagine both parties would honestly be fine acknowledging the other, but the real kicker is…who does first? Seems so silly but really I think this is a thing.

You’re clearly a sexpat here to exploit local women sexually. Never mind that you’re married and your wife controls the family’s finances.

Deuce Dropper had a thread about this exact subject about ten years ago. And his thread about stingy expats was classic. I miss that dude.

a WTF moment for sure:

You replied to the wrong poster.

and over here in the bay area an opposite dilemma.
My half bro is all white (we share a white daddy) and back when we would go do a weekly meet up we would often walk on some trails near the GG bridge (theres a nice little hike there) for exercise and if my bro is in front of me as we are walking single file, and hes about 20 feet ahead or so, any white person approaching him from the other side always said “hi” or nodded his head but when they passed me (asian looking) they looked away, never said hi or nodded as if they never saw me.

I was invisible.

And yet you are saying two white people passing each other on the wan would ignore each others presence. How strange white people are no?

what’s that about?

Taiwanese claim that the rain here is SO acidic that it damages the skin and hair follicles, thus causing male pattern baldness.

Long black “syrup” look local

If anything I find the opposite to be true. Fellow white men, in particular, seem to want to acknowledge me even if we don’t know each other; or worse, they want to have an awkward conversation to see if we’ve somehow met before or which of the same people we know.

Wow I want to live in your fantasy life Dude.
When can we meet?

…which is not limited to men alone.

The number of bald(ing) older women in Taiwan is startling.

Wise words

It must be true. When i first moved here I had a full head of hair. Ten years later it’s almost all gone. What other explanation is there?

I dunno. I walk in the rain all the time and my hair is as luscious and shiny as it’s ever been.

…for now.

I’d advise you to reconsider this way of doing things. Wear a hat, use an umbrella. It can’t hurt! :sunglasses:

Guy

I don’t like hats. They mess up my handsome and luscious doo.

Cumbersome to carry

Pita to carry all this stuff
