Some countries give residence to such people after 10 or 20 years depending on the country.
In fact Taiwan has talked about doing just that to get people to work in the recycling Industry.
Well they opened a quota for migrant workers for recycling and I saw a proposal floated by one minister to allow illegals or people who were deported to apply.

I was agreeing with the point that halving the fine wonāt be enough to encourage people to voluntarily declare themselves overstayers. There needs to be a lot more on offer.

Some countries like Taiwan and the US put them in jails/rotten detention centers for months or even years before they deport them.
I wouldnāt be surprised that they they do the day per 1000 nt in jail thing in Taiwan for deportees that canāt afford the fine. Would be interested to know where that money goesā¦from the fine ?

This thread reminds me of an old joke. Taiwan expat in South Africa has a cold he just can`t get rid of. He goes to the Saffie doctor. Doctor gives him the normal remedy. Does not work. Comes back a few days later. Doctor tells him to defecate in a tupperware container, add paint solvent, chemical sprays, and a whole bunch of other nasty chemicals, etc. Then the doctor tell him to close the container, wait an hour, and breathe in the fumes.
Expat comes back a week later and is full of praise. I was immediately cured, he tells the doctor.

I think most of them knew it and just used it as an excuse to be collectively racist. There is no way after all this education that they can be dumb enough not to know this. Or can they ? Either dumb and I mean really dumb or racist and very nasty.
I think a bit from Column A and bit from Column B. I have no doubt some had malicious intent, especially the ringleadersā¦ but I also think thereās a lot of idiots who donāt know their ass from their elbow and just followed the lynch-mob. Same in the USA. Thereās podcasts where they bring people in their 20s on and ask them simple questions like āwhen did World War 2 happen?ā or even ācan you name 3 countries?ā and they just canāt. Total brain rot, probably from relying on devices too much and not thinking enough.
