If it were possible would you be interested in a free e-mail account with your the.chief2hot4U@yahoo.com, or whatever, this is your chance. As with all gmail accounts, you’d have over 2 gigs of space, and all the usual gmail features. We’re implementing it with the moderators first, and will probably expand it from there. What do you think?

Can I be the.chief@forumosa.com? Or do I HAVE to be TomHill? If I were the chief… somethin about lesbians… hmm.

Some of us have more than a couple of email addresses. But another free one doesn’t hurt.

I’m a “Sure!”

I know you were only kidding, but no, you couldn’t. We’re limiting accounts to members user names… And you’d also be locked into that user name for the rest of your life. THE REST OF YOUR LIFE! :astonished:

Um, I mean if you wanted to change your name, you’d have to abandon your old account and start over again. The way things stand now, if a user wants to change his user name, a PM to me usually does the trick… We’re looking for commitment here, not some whimsical foray into the internet…
…if you wanted to change your name, you’d have to abandon your old account and start over again.
Which name? Gmail name, Forumosa name, or both? Is this for technical reasons?

Would the email be routed through the Forumosa.com server? (Seems that it would have to be since email routers look for the domain name first, right?) Does that mean that in the case of the Forumosa server going down, or a switch of server, the email would also be down for a while?

I don’t wish to look a potential gift horse in the mouth, just trying to understand how it works. Many people end up using their Gmail account as their main one, channeling everything else through that. For those people, the issue of long-term reliability is important.

Do you know about the gmail feature that lets you gather ALL your email addresses under one gmail roof? You only need to open gmail and you get all your emails from all your accounts. WHen you send mail out, you can select which account you want the recipient to see it coming from – all from gmail. It’s really pretty cool.

Forumosa name, for administrative reasons…

No, the account is gmail in everything but name, which is ours, and has nothing to do with our servers at all. Your data is as safe as it would be in a gmail account. The e-mail accounts also supports chat with other gmail users, so that’s neat.

Sounds good. One more question.

Most free email accounts require that you log in every so often, or your mail will be deleted and eventually the account will disappear too. I think you have to log into Hotmail every month at least, and Yahoo is 2 months.

I guess the same applies with these accounts? Not a big hassle but worth reminding people of.

I don’t believe this is the case here - I have a couple of gmail accounts that I simply use as forwarders - so I don’t log into them at all. And they still seem to be working (been months now)

You can do the same wih Outlook, Outlook express, Thunderbird and several other amil clients.

i’m up for it. gimme gmail!

Sure, TainanCowboy@(your hat)gmail.com works for me.

I have another gmail account that I have forwarded to my main email box, so doing the same with this one is no problemo.

Add me to the list & Thanks.

It will actually be your username @forumosa.com. By the way, you should be careful about posting your email address in public. Spammers get their computers to trawl the web, recording email addresses so they can add them to their lists and send you lots of rubbish emails. Or so they can sell the lists to others.

Thanks for clatifying the email info. And I also thanks for the posting email addy suggestion. I do not use the one I posted so, as far as I know, its a dead addy. But I think I rendered it useless to spiders.

Sounds good, sign me up. I was wondering (and excuse my web ignorance) what would happen if I used canookterucksack@forumosa quite a bit, and kept all of my deep dark secrets there, and where I hid the bodies and stuff like that, and then forumosa.com was severely hacked and my access to my mail or my privacy was jeopardized. Safety issue. I had a friend sign me up to a private mail thingy a while ago. My friend didn’t bother to pay his account fees or something, and one day I couldn’t get my info. He was somehow getting snippits of my personal mail on his server or something. He’s not my friend anymore…not because of this, but…

I assume that this would simply be a regular gmail account, but with a different name?

Maoman’s away on holiday right now, but I got one when they were first offered. Within a few hours, my lovely clean gmail page was covered in spam, so I deactivated it right quick. Now I’m back to spam-free email.
