I thought sex Ed is important

I’ll just jump in with my latest conspiracy theory here (well, it’s a warmed-over one, but whatever).

I can remember Tony Blair (I think it was) spouting off about how high-speed broadband was a basic human right and the government would see to it that everybody gets it. This was about the time when a 128Kbit ISDN line was the dog’s bollocks. I was thinking at the time: why the feck does the average human need a 1Mbit (which was the meaning of “high speed” at the time) internet connection? There’s really only one possible reason: streaming video. Get everybody watching porn and similar brain-numbing pabulum on facebook or youtube, and you’ve got a compliant population just waiting to have propaganda poured into their brains.

They were playing the long game.

But yeah, I’m really glad porn didn’t exist much beyond the occasional magazine passed around at school.

I dunno know that I was sincerely asking. Comparing to Taiwan, we don’t have that much chastity ed. I’m not sure if Asia is necessarily more conservative in that aspect. We might not talk about sex as much, but we might be more open to sex than you think.

i’ve lived in a few asian countries, i probably think asians are more open to sex than you think…

not that i’m going to start a “what’s your favorite position thread”, though that might finally get me the badge…

I thought you were older than that (on account of the wisdom). When I saw the blue “F” had posted, I came here to check, expecting you to be reminiscing over some saucy daguerreotypes.

I guess I don’t have the morality police gene. I don’t even remotely care what other people do in their private lives so long as it’s consensual.

Have a poll.

People love polls.

Yup exactly, software (GNU) is where I copied this from.

I guess in terms of porn, even 4 different questions come to mind in terms of “free” as in gratis or libre.

Is free porn good?

  1. Porn made available at no cost (tube sites)

  2. Commercials porn illegally made available at no cost (pirate sites)

  3. Porn generally being legal

  4. Porn being regulated (censoring of certain body parts but not others, legality of certain depictions, difference between real people and 2D/3D art, …)

So what could be discussed?

Re1: Is the abundance of gratis porn (trailers) on tube sites not hurting porn producer sales? I wonder why do they do this, like giving away (almost) complete movies for free? Wouldn’t much more people actually pay for porn if the freely available version wasn’t for all intents and purposes… Uhm… Enough?

Re2: in some jurisdictions it seems porn was/is not copyrightable, for example Taiwan. For example because of morality, or because of not being “art”. Does that make sense?

Re3: Outlawing porn… Well… Could it even work?

Re4: extreme example is Germany. Obviously, porn with underage actors is verboten. Less obviously, also porn us verboten with actors that look like they may be underage. And least obviously, porn is verboten that doesn’t have any actors, like comics or 3D renderings - if anyone depicted looks like they may be underage. So… Where to draw the line, and with what intent?

The most important point, though, is what @MadamBroccoli mentioned: sex education should be good enough, so that kids know better than use porn as sex ed.

I’m not sure whether that’s an insult or a compliment. Or both

Close. The must-have bedroom toy at the time was this:

Freedom of speech. You don’t like it, don’t watch it. That’s what I think.

I think it’s good and healthy. It’s a form of art. Not that I think a lot of them are artsy… it’s the imagination of people. That’s the thing future historians would be interested in and carefully keep in a museum. Ah! That’s the kind of sex people would like to enjoy in the 21st century!

Don’t fight the drive. Who that hasn’t watched porn among you, let them first cast a stone at the porn industry.

Some of that Victorian porn is pretty damn hot. Nothing like a little repression to get the juices flowing.
