Seems like these vehicles might justify performance upgrades better than, for example, cars that can already do “100kph in almost EXACTLY 6 seconds dead!!!” stock (Teana thread) but I suppose thats not likely to happen.

I once stuffed a Cologne V6 (2.8 liter) into one of these for shits and giggles…
Same torque to weight ratio as a 911, and can carry a lot more beer.
You can also bundle many more pretty women in the back I’m guessing.

See what I mean? Thats almost a definition of unlikely.
I was wondering what, if anything, could be done for the Zace/Freeca, preferably not TOO elaborate and a bit more stealthy than the above. Sort of thing might slide through an inspection with no comebacks.

Have done. Leaving the engine number unchanged, I thought there might still be possibilities for
(a) Bore-out to increase capacity. As I understand it the scope for this varies a lot between engines. Probably too expensive unless a rebore was required and economically justified anyway.
(b) Bolt-on turbo or supercharger. Latter seems unlikely to be available cheap but I thought there might be some (compatible?) turbos in scrappies, though I don’t know much about turbos.

That seems to be about it.
If you don’t know too much about turbos and their effects on engines, then I would advise to stay clear of them. They of course can have many benefits if matched properly with the engine tuned, but they can cause significant damage as well as drop in performance if fitted incorrectly and can reduce the useful lifespan of an engine.
Always remember that the vast majority of engines developed have a set number of parameters in mind. Generally speaking if an engine is produced not in conjunction with the fitment of turbo chargers, then they may be either very difficult to set up properly, or can suffer damage or early wear and tear.
I didn’t read too far back. Was there a specific engine you were referring to with the turbo fitment talk?

Well, context is stock Freeca/Zace, but its just a what if, I dont have either, though I’ve been looking. I’d be unlikely to get into turbo fitment myself, but getting a bore-out done might be a possibility. The Little Yellow Truck thread suggested that could be fairly cheap for Zace wear-correction. I don’t know what the limits are on those engines, but if its a common block I’d suspect that a 1500 could at least go to 1800 (since there is one) and maybe a bit further.
Just a speculative fish for expert opinion. There are quite a lot of these station-waggon things around, and they are regarded as underpowered, so I thought it might be of general interest.
