FUll Android Market access- Phone versus Pad?

Hi,

It is not possible to buy apps on the Android Market place with a Taiwanese SIM card, (that has been discussed here: forumosa.com/taiwan/viewtopi … oid+market)

My easy solution was to get my mum to snail mail me a cheap pre-paid sim card from New Zealand.

When I insert that into the phone I can buy ANY apps (because Market think I am a New Zealand phone), and still pay with my Taiwanese Credit card which is registered in my Google account…

However, I now have an ASUS PAD (the asus transformer prime) in my hands (to try before I buy)…and it is only wi-fi (no SIM).

Does anyone have any idea how I could access the FULL Android Market place now?

Never mind…problem solved.

Apps that I bough on my cellphone with my New Zealand SIM, are showing on the Pad’s Market place as available (but not installed).

So, i just did a test and installed one of them, and it works fine.

So it appears that a paid app can be installed on multiple devices.

Wow, I hadn’t realized that this idiocy (on the part of the Taiwanese) was still continuing. The government sure wants to sink HTC, don’t they?

Anyway, just want to ask, does it cost you anything to connect with the New Zealand SIM card in Taiwan, or is it free?

Google have just opened their Chrome Web Store in Taiwan and according to the news report will be offering paid apps in the future. I’d guess that means they’ll be available again in the Android market as well.

Nope!

The NZ$5 pre-paid SIM card is not activated, it is just there to let Market know it is a NZ phone.

I use Wi-Fi to download.

I only need to use the NZ SIM card when buying and updating the app.

Damn…so any games/apps I bought on my cellphone using the New Zealand SIM card are now installed on my new asus transformer prime.

BUT…I cannot buy any of the TegraZOne Games (those designed to work with the NVIDIA card), because they will ONLY install on a Tegra system (which my phone is not).

I am guessing/hoping Android Market place is getting my location from the Internet provider (because the ASUS pad is Wi-Fi only), so I hope that I will be able to access the paid Android Market next week when I am in Europe.

What a hassle…wish the Taiwan government had thought of something more useful to focus on (e.g. drunk driving, dangerously driving taxis, foreigners working illegally in kindergartens, over fishing, shark finning etc. etc.) instead of pissing on Google market place and their 15 min refund limit.
