Full time/Part time Domestic Helper

Can anyone who has a part-time or full-time domestic helper relate a bit of their experience?

How much does it cost per month?
What hours will they usually work?
Can one hire filipina helpers or locals only?
Is it relatively easy (as it is in Hong Kong) to find a helper, or very hard?
How would one look for a helper?

We will be living in the southern Taiwan (Tainan area).

Its complicated as things usually are in Taiwan.

You can hire a Taiwanese maid but it would cost you around 35,000nt a month (for 6 days a week) and in all honesty they are a pain.
Filipinas are usually trouble, they borrow money, dissapear for days on end and sometimes steal… thats a brute honest opinion from my mum whos had maids for over 20 years.

Best to hire indonesians, they are less trouble and usually very easy going.
Only way to do it is illegally and doing that can land you in alot of trouble if you get caught.
The illegal ones cost about 20,000nt.
That gets you a 24/7 maid, you can give them days off (usually they dont want them) and deduct a small amount of pay per month.

So my advice is get an indonesian and find a friend whom knows an agent

I must say though my last maid went nuts, this was only a week ago, she started not doing any jobs and letting the kids cry, turned out she was taking diet pills and was completely spaced out, we sat her down and asked her if we could help her and she said no, when we asked her if she still wanted her job she was unsure… it was a really weird awkard situation as we really liked her and the kids loved her, but the drugs and my kids is a no-no so we had to fire her :frowning:

So its not plain sailing getting a maid, you need to be careful and alot of it is just pure luck of the draw.
Usually the best maids are taken and the dodgy ones are fired and work illegally… so be careful!.

Illegal ones can cost you a LOT of money. Be warned. I recently posted on here about one of my neighbours, a sweet old lady with very little money, who borrowed HER neighbour’s Indonesian maid a couple afternoons a week.
A DIFFERENT neighbour with a grudge ratted her out, she got caught, the Indonesian got deported and the sweet old lady got fined NT$500,000, with NO way of paying. I think the max. fine is NT$750,000.
So it DOES happen.

Hi,

Wanted to check whether the situation has changed over the years?

Is it possible to get domestic help in Taipei? Part-time or full-time? What is the procedure for the same?

Would help to know!

Thanks

No the situation has not changed. Enforcement has gotten stricter.

Unless you have an elderly person who needs full time care or three or more very small children, you cannot legally hire a foreign domestic helper.

There is an exception for foreign executive/managers who make more than NT$250,000/month or a CEO at a firm with annual revenue of at least NT$500 million or the like

A Taiwanese helper would probably cost too much and would be hard to find.

There are some services like this one:

familyclean.com.tw/

They claim that their employees have clean criminal records etc.

Not even part time? That seems strange. :unamused:

Oh, but can you employ locals as part time helpers?

Thanks

What’s the logic behind this?

So if i understand correctly - you can hire a local Taiwanese as domestic help but not a foreigner. Is that correct? Or is the restriction on local domestic help as strong as well?

Yes you can hire local helpers, but it will not be easy to find them. In general, Taiwanese make too much money and find this kind of work demeaning.

Hi,

If one “qualify” to hire a foreign DH, what is the process ? Where to find her ?
Are they some agencies like in HK or SGP ?

Thanks
