Hey guys, a quick question: I have been playing Left 4 Dead 2 for a fair bit now with other Taiwanese players and I have seen about two people with their own servers, does anyone know where I can find a company that offers to host your dedicated game servers for a price? similar to gameservers.com or multiplay.co.uk?
Maybe do a traceroute to those TWese servers that you see, to find out who hosts them. Then have a look at the website of those hosters if they host game servers.
But maybe those guys simply have a Linux or Windows dedicated server, and installed the server software themselves? I used to do that back home… I just put my 1U server in some local hoster’s rack, and went crazy with configuring all the stuff (Mail, web, gameservers etc.) myself. Sure, you gotta learn a lot (especially if you don’t want to have a hackable server or you want to avoid being a SPAM source), but it’s fun ^^
Apart from that, I seem to recall that there are maybe HK based companies for game servers, at least for Day of Defeat… The pings from TW to HK are good, so should be ok ![]()
I can host your servers on dedicated bandwidth. But I dont provider server maintenance you do that yourself by remote access. You issue is what type of bandwidth do you need for your server, plus online UPS and other support systems, and your budget.
This issue that we are most asked about is latency, which is important for game play. These babies below have a latency of around 55ms and clients are based in Manila, we host in Taipei.
You can get different upload speeds depending on needs, and our bandwidth is dedicated to each customer not shared. Ping speeds around Taiwan vary from 0 - 20ms

Ive used gameservers.com before.
Just shop around. My TF2 24 person server cost me about 15$US per month with full access to the server itself.
Gameservers.com is only offering servers in North America and Europe, no? From my experience (when I was still gaming a bit, that is
) the ping from Taiwan to both US and Europe would be pretty high, far over 100ms. So for any reasonably fast gameplay stuff like first person shooters I guess this is not really playable well.
Does anyone have experience with any Asia based gameserver hosting companies? I think that would help the OP most… unless he wants to just have his server housed/hosted, like Satellite TV offers - but that means lots of additional work for setting up & maintaining the server.
I might be able to help a little bit with getting started, but unfortunately my knowledge is limited to Windows based servers… and for this kind of application Linux seems the far better (and of course cheaper) choice.
If there really are no TW based game hosts, maybe that’s a market niche… ![]()
The OP asked for a Dedicated Game Server… we have 24 hour tech support on our office, and dedicated bandwidth. We do host servers for people for many reasons, but we don’t service those servers as the clients want their privacy.
Only initial setup takes time and the OP can do that before he brings his server to my office. We have dedicated fixed IP addresses and he wont need any modems or routers just the PC network card. From fiber hub to server is max 10m of cat6.
Satellite TV, I know what you mean and if I wanted to host a game server I would definitely go to you (I have my own server hardware anyway)… but from the OP’s post I guess he wants to have a readily set up “game server”, meaning just access the specific server application, already set up and running on hardware that is also owned and maintained by the hosting company. Well, maybe the OP can shed some light on what he actually wants
Olm has figured it out and apologies to Satellite, what I really wanted was something akin to gameservers.com or artofwarcentral.com who both provide the servers for a fixed monthly fee. Usually $15 to $20 a month with me only needing to configure some mods if required and just play… Anything more complicated than that would be a bit too much trouble.
I can’t access it from work, but maybe try www.gameserver.hk ?
Yes it seems that is the OP’s best option from his posting is a cheap game server. Sometimes people ask for dedicated servers not understanding what that means. Dedicated servers are used by one client only for specific tasks. These clients usually want dedicated back bone fiber speeds with Class A priority. You can tell the Class by looking at the IP address provided.
You can use NEOTRACE PRO V325 to check the map, nodes, and pings for any IP systems, timings and a host of other information of any host
Ah yep, I think you found out exactly what got you and the OP think of different things ![]()
Of course, for someone offering hosting/housing like you a “dedicated server” is one physical server computer dedicated to one customer, as opposed to a virtual machine or web server shared by more than one customer.
The OP used the word dedicated server in it’s special meaning in game server terminology, which is simply the opposite of a listen server. But a dedicated game server typically is run on a virtual (and thus shared) server. Hence the misunderstanding ![]()
Yep but even gameserver.com have dedicated servers too

Dedicated Game Servers
Argh, so complicated
Sorry for the misunderstanding guys, actually I was playing online last night on a local server and it said it was sponsored by some [insert chinese characters] and I wish I could find out what organization did that but its all good I think I am going to go with artofwarcentral.com; they have decent pings for L4D2 between Europe and Taiwan.

No problems. It’s always good to get in a discussion so others can also see what’s available with shared or dedicated servers.
