Geckos of Taiwan

We don’t have many spectacular looking native species here, but they are still amazingly cute nonetheless.

Will get better pics. Here are some eggs incubating. I believe this is probably Gekko guishanicus, not 100% sure.

Approx 5 hours old.

Is it helping you save 15% or more on car insurance?

My wife hates them more than cockroaches. I really don’t get it. I guess they can be dirty, and leave little :poop:, but I’d much rather enjoy the company of a gecko than a rat or a roach. They’re also abundant in Australia and most homeowners just shrug when they see them.

It’s one of those classic complaints you see on Thailand Trip Advisor: there was a gecko in the room and the staff just laughed at us. Needless to say we checked out the next morning.

My first real time meeting a gecko was in a cheap guesthouse in Chiang Mai, when a fairly big one dropped from the ceiling onto some book I was reading in bed. I didn’t check out the next morning, but we were both a bit surprised by the encounter. :grimacing:

I seen one of those little gecko eat a dragonfly that is at least as big, if not bigger than the gecko. No idea how it did it, but it did, and then when it finishes eating, it just carried on like nothing happened.

What were you expecting it to do? Stick a hand up and ask for the check? Order dessert? :face_with_peeking_eye:

Was the book the Brothers Karamazov?

(It’d make the story so much better if it was)

Wonderful animals. Watch then eating small insects, fighting over the bright spots- only problem is when one of them dies and falls off the wall and every now and them you see them on the floor with four paws splayed up.

We could be sticking geckos into random cars to help deal with pests as well as annoy wives, and helping them save on car insurance.

This little one hitched a ride on my car for a week, probably to remind me to renew my insurance.

Watch them interact with the cats safely is also great fun.

Next up, new hatchling. About 2 hours old, 38mm total length.

I believe these eggs are Hemidactylus frenatus. 疣尾蝎虎

Used to breed LOTS of phelsuma species. But that’s Madagascar bro, not Taiwan. I wish we had super colorful (native) geckos here in taiwan!!!

The geckos have moved to my bedroom. Luckily they are high enough that they could be “safe” from the cats…who so far only follow them with their gazes.

I heard cats can fly so they are never really safe… We call them Kitty Hawks…

By now i think most geckos instinctively know what psychotic assholes the felines are
