Gecko's repellent

sticky traps catch all animals that touch it. I have even got stuck on one or two. pretty terrible way to kill something though.

only 2 real options are take away their food sources and/or catch them and take them elsewhere. each girl will probably have up to 10 eggs a year (likely 4-6), and they will breed within a year. so they dont multiply like mice or roaches.

they are pretty harmless though. Except perhaps the pinworm laced air bombs they drop from the ceiling.

OMG… don’t talk gecko’s breeding please… I can’t imagine more of those

On Wed morning I’ve got scared by one, and I think that was the other one from the 14th floor duo. At least so far didn’t count more on our hallway/home. And since the two came in to our apartment I don’t see the hallway ones, so I assume they’re were only two. The small one got hunted down by my bf, then that other one, that lost it’s tail in the morning chase with my bf, scared me on Wed evening when I was home alone. I’ve sprayed bleach cleaner in it’s direction and saw it fell of the wall. That chased me onto the table where I’ve sat crying for an hour waiting for my bf to come back… but when he did come back it was gone. So far haven;t seen it since then.

I don’t want to kill them, but they freak me out to the point I’m scared to be at my home  I really wish there was some method to move them away, or some professional service cleaning houses of geckos… but so far everyone tells me they’re cute and offer no working solution. I hope they geckos can be smart enough and move to the Taiwanese neighbors that will surely appreciate their service.

get your windows/doors/air con/any other opening screened and sealed well. then its just going to take someone to take them out manually or you wait for them to die.

i was attempting to comfort you in the breeding as they dont reproduce all that much compared to other household critters like rodents and roaches. Sorry  but they dont spread fast. so seal up your house well (that could be hard, easy if in a condo) and dont leave stuff around that bugs are attracted to and thus the geckos wont be attracted.

For some therapy, google Day geckos. they are green and cute. google day geckos eating fruit for cute shots maybe.

Eh, we’re trying to seal the place.

As for breeding… I’ve seen a tiny little gecko on the hallway… so the two definitely had some kiddos…

Wait until I put the pictures of the door stopper thinghie. It is cheap, easy to install, and no toxic fumes involved. No more critters in your home. Remind me!!!

Yes, please show me the photos. The baby geckos are really tiny

Yeah, which means they’ll easily end up under someone’s shoe or under a flower pot or something. They don’t live long. So, you close the entrances, there will be no mo’.

you may also want to screen your stove exhaust if you have one, lots of animals come in through the holes. air con the same. also check your window screens so they fit snug and have no holes. you may want to put a bead of silicone along the screen frames as they are usually pretty lame and loose.

I was thinking about such places, because yes, there are pretty big holes. But me being a lame DIYer am kind of asking my bf to do it, but he thinks that’s too much  so he had to take care of a baby lizard this evening for me… thanks for the suggestions, I will try to convince him step by step I guess.

Are you guys 100% sure they’re actually beneficial for roaches and other insects? Because the one that’s in my room is huge, like a baby iguana and it freaks me out how fast it can run. The lil b@$%rd also dropped its tail when i tried to catch it with a stick.

If it’s huge them maybe it will be beneficial… but I doubt the smaller ones can actually devour the big roaches here…

I must say, the bigger the gecko the more freaked out I am, so I hope the baby geckos move out before they grow up… but it’s always… few days of piece, sudden “ko ko ko” sound from somewhere close / sneaky reappearance.

no gecko in Taiwan can take out those big roaches with wings. they would likely cut up their insides passing the legs alone. but roach babies are tiny. you can bet the geckos do a number on those guys!

hope you never google new caledonian giant gecko. curiosity vs. phobia.

I find it rather sad that whereas anyone who dares to comment that feral stray dogs are a problem gets shouted down and threatened with longterm harassment, someone who is irrationally terrified of harmless geckos is advised on how best to kill them.

BTW, that is not an indictment of Musashi; I can understand being irrationally terrified of something (once upon a time, I was terrified of spiders, and had to either kill them or leave the area whenever I saw one).

But frankly, the geckos aren’t there for the scenery; if they are attracted to your apartment, it’s because you have an insect problem. I’d suggest finding a new place, because when you’ve killed the harmless little lizards, you’re most likely going to be overrun with cockroaches.

I don’t ask for advice how to kill them but how to make them go (repel not kill!)

There’s actually very few roaches here, compared to my old place. I’ve just signed contract for a year and cannot move. You suggesting this is seriously not a reasonable suggestion.

On the contrary I was wondering if having a bird as pet would keep lizards away? I. An have one, but was just wondering …

Impaler has a point: somewhere in your apartment there must be a mosquito colony, feeding the geckos. So no food, no geckos.

I always forget either the camera or the card reader, so I’ll put some links of teh door stuff I was talking about: door strip for the bottom of the door or weatherproofing strip:

homedepot.com/p/MD-Building- … dlfaPkwe2w

homedepot.com/p/PortaSeal-Ga … dlfyfkwe2w

the flap part is flexible so you can open teh door no problem. The fixed part sticks to the door with self adhesive. You can do this on teh main doors of teh house, and voila. No more geckos in.

Or I’ll lend you Bobby.

Thanks Icon for the photos. I think I’ve bought sth similar last week. It’s like a strip that you attach at the bottom of the door, so there’s no space between floor and the door. The problem is… there is space enough for a gecko on the sides and to of the door, so they still can come in I guess.

I must say the place seems to have no mosquitoes, but there are some tiny ants, some roaches and spiders. Since we moved in (a month) I’ve put the roaches and ants poison traps (sorry if it offends someones warm feelings towards ants and roaches), and there’s really not many of these left. Yet I can still here the geckos sounds from time to time, but haven’t had an encounter since last week (and I really pray it will stay this way).

I must say I expected, less “fauna” on the 14th floor

In the good old days only Geckos in the south make sounds, the geckos in the north cannot make sounds.

i hate roaches… ants, especially the really tiny red ones, I can live with…

Oh, that is so sweet, calling the cops for a gecko! And they go!

They ask the cop if they called him for a roach, he’ll go. He says yes.

Haha, not me, but my boyfriend showed it to me, and pleaded not to call police on that  I told him, that if he will be quick to save me, then I won’t.

I didn’t know Northern geckos were quiet… but I live in Taichung, so not sure which rule should apply.
