Where in Taipei can I find a reputable source for nice gemstones? A jeweler perhaps? I have one contact from searching the forums here.
Have you tried the jade market? I have seen pleanty of stones other than jade there.

Taiwan’s a good place to get jade and the various jade-like stones. And although coral isn’t a gemstone, Taiwan’s a good place to get it too.
For the most part, other sorts of gemstones aren’t indigenous to Taiwan. So, for something other than those, if you have special needs (in price, quantity, etc.) I’ve heard that Bangkok is a good choice.
You’ve already been to the weekend jade market in Taipei, right?
Burma is the main source of gemstones in this part of the world.
Bangkok is a good choice… if you know what you’re doing. There are a lot of scams going on there.
