Get a mortgage at retirement

I’m doing some retirement planning and I was wondering if anyone experienced this or heard about it: My Taiwanese wife & I are planning to move to Taiwan when I retire but we won’t have income from employment. We will have more than enough investments & savings to cover the cost of a house there but I don’t want to tie up a large portion of the money in a house. I’d like to get a mortgage using my IRA’s as a source of income with Social Security coming later when I hit 67 (I plan to retire at 60).

Anyone get a mortgage just based on assets? I know that here in the USA they usually take 70% of your account balance and divide by 360 to calculate a 30-year income stream.
