hi, i almost studied now 6 months straight of chinese and my maximum extension to 180 days of student visa is over.
the arc office told me to go to some other office and apply for an arc, but my plan is to stop studying.
what happens if i apply for arc but i quit my chinese classes after i got it?
can i still stay in taiwan? does quitting my chinese class make the arc invalid? do they know that i quit my classes?
If you apply for an ARC based upon your status as a student, once you’re no longer a student your ARC is considered invalid. Being enrolled but not attending classes doesn’t count as “student” status. Yes, the government does check sometimes. Others can probably provide current info on just how long you might have.
Do you want to stay in Taiwan and work? If so, the thing to do would be to get an ARC through employment.
Oh yes, the school will notify of your arc cancellation, and once that happens, your arc becomes invalid no matter what date is printe don it. Hence, you wil have a nasty surprise when you try to leave the airport…
Also the ARC only lasts as long as the semester - so you’d only have it for 3 months anyway!
EDIT:
However, if I was you, I would apply for it - and once you’ve got it, sort out everything that requires an ARC in Taiwan - Cell phone contract, buy a scooter in your own name, car in your own name, driving license etc etc.
Sure, the ARC will later be cancelled, but you’ll be sorted with the above
thx monokuro for your thoughts.
i’m already here for over a year and haven’t needed an arc so far.
the only time it would be good is to apply for a taiwanese drivers licence and finally can rent a scooter without much hassle :>
