The woman took display mugs that are not for sale, so that would have been theft or robbery.
The clerk should have asked the woman for the mug back and if she refuses call the police.
Those mugs are crap anyway. We bought a whole lot of stuff at Carrefour several months ago when they were having their Angry Birds mug campaign and we got the entire set in one go. They’re much more detailed with the features actually sticking out. They’re kind of awkward to drink from, so we use them as salt, sugar, etc. pots. I don’t even know what Angry Birds are, but we have a whole row of them above our kitchen sink.
I doubt most cared about the actual quality of the mugs, it’s more of “Angry bird is popular so we want them too”
You must learn. I can see the look on yoour face as you realize “Le angry birds, c’est moi.”
I got mine (the yellow bird…so cheery in the morning) and didn’t even have to fight for it!
Here’s a Chinese version of the article, with a screen shot of the cat fight: http://www.udn.com/2012/9/15/NEWS/SOCIETY/SOC7/7364764.shtml

2 cats fighting over a bird…
The clerk was in the wrong. Let the woman leave with the dang mug. Remember the other clip with the young , cutesy girl throwing stuff off the shelves? No clerk tackled her did they?
Was not smart to tackle the customer.
In the states the gal wouldve pulled out a gun and shot the clerk dead in self defense.
They really want the stupid mug. Let em have it, no biggie.

Well the clerk was wrong to wrestle with the customer, but clearly the mug was for display only and the clerk should have called the manager and let him deal with the customer. If she leaves with it then the clerk can call the manager/police/whatever because that one wasn’t for sale.
You can’t just give the stuff away just because you feel like it, remember in those stores they hold the clerk responsible for the store… at 100nt an hour 1000nt loss or deduction is a lot of money.
Why was the clerk wrong to wrestle with the customer ? Just protecting the property of her employer, stopping a theft. Taking responsibility, doing her job etc. That kind of thing should be applauded. And it’s not like the customer pulled a gun or knife on her.
I agree with pgdaddy. Once she decided to get a five finger discount, all bets were off in defending the property. The cashier should have been awarded her Angry Bird mug (when it arrives) for not being a jobsworth.
IN the new world we live in, advertisement costs a lot of money. But its aim is to bring in the customers. Silly things like mugs bring in customers. This customer came in. She signed up for a mug and instead of waiting took one that was on display. Granted this was wrong, but in the scheme of things, allow her that one exception if she is intending to use force (as was the case). Because ultimately, it is better to allow her to keep her mug then not.
Now we have a case where (at least in the USA) the mugger woman would have sued and most likely will win a large settlement against Seven 11.
The clerk will be fired because her action endangered herself and set a bad example of how to handle unruly customers.
A larger leeway should be allowed staff to overcome such ripples common in serving the public.
The problem then is the law, not the cashier. A person (or his representative) should be allowed to protect his property from theft.
You don’t understand, they don’t have enough to go around and so they had to place more orders which takes time to make. The display model is needed because they still have to show other customers what they’re getting. If they just give it to someone then other customers aren’t going to get to see them. The problem is people’s consumer mindset and instant gratification.
At first thought, i thought, I’d let the customer take the display model and give up her right for a new one. But Taiwan Luthers is right. You need the display model. I never buy things like mugs or even “bonuses” sight unseen. I like the promotions and I really do take a second look at the product, then decide whether or not I should increase my purchase to the next level to get an additional stamp.
What she should have done was to warn the customer that she will contact the police or the home office. Tell her that she is stealing store property then let her go on her way. She’s got her name, phone number, possible Id card number and address and even photo from the security cams. It’s not worth the fight.
Asians love angry birds
Did you guiys know that the clerks are responsible even for the paper cups? So if you take more than one paper cup, the clerk has to pay it off his/her salary. Imagine the cost of the friggin bird cup… So yes, the girl reacted out of self interest, not to be scolded and fined and having to pay for some crazy old lady’s whim.
Those people who work in convenience stores have my full admiration. They are usually flat out and for little pay. Most are pretty friendly. They must put up with all sorts of nonsense on a daily basis. I’ve seen them cleaning up messes that were made by people being unnecessarily careless, lazy, stupid, or all three. To then get “fined” for a frickin’ Angry Bird cup because some silly bitch couldn’t wait her bloody turn like everyone else is taking the piss.
Yea, the operator must make a killing because the wages are extremely low (as low as they can get away with) and you get fined for any little loss under your watch. I’ve taken a 2000nt loss on a whim before because of some ETC add value thing failed but it still charged. I told the manager about it and they still held me responsible for it. Ever since then I’ve more or less refused to work at a store like that anymore. You pretty much have to be like Jesus to work there because people will try their best to piss you off.
Yep!
