Get Taiwanese ID, HHR with temporary passport

Hello,

I was able to get my temporary Taiwanese passport few months ago as my mum was Taiwanese at the time I was born in France.
I’m 43 and I will travel to Taipei next month with my Taiwanese passport to get my Taiwanese ID.
I have read that there was a new law stating that I don’t need anymore to live one full year in Taiwan to get it, does anyone already get it under the new law without staying in Taiwan or is it still not possible?
If I can get it, what documents do I need and what is the lead time to get it?
Thanks:)

There are a few posts around here discussing this, you can probably look thru them.

In summary, you now need to additionally

  1. get your police checks in France done and authenticated and perhaps translate it if necessary
  2. get your medicals done either in France (harder to figure out, but you save time getting this step done in Taiwan, you time waiting in Taiwan may be around 7 days) or in Taiwan (Easier but you need more time in Taiwan, 7 days for medical results, more time to get residency approved in Taiwan)
  3. if your mom is no longer a Taiwanese citizen, some kind of proof from a relative (eg. Declaration with ID saying allowing to add you to address) or contract from a landlord as proof of address.
  4. gather those and the documents you earlier used to get your NWOHR passport and go back to TECO in France or NIA in Taiwan (enter with Taiwan passport) for a residency permit.
  5. there are several other steps in Taiwan involving going to the HHR office to set up hhr and getting a new passport ( check Calm-narwhal’s reddit post which is more comprehensive).

Btw, did your mom renounce her Taiwanese citizenship with a renunciation certificate (喪失國籍許可證書)? Just being curious cos my mom did, but is it required in France?

Hello newhere,
Thanks so much for your usual information.
My mum didn’t renounce her Taiwanese citizenship as France recognized dual citizenship.
About the medical check, if I understand correctly I will need to wait 7 days (after entering Taiwan) before I’m able to do the check or does it mean I will need to do the check and then wait 7 days to get the result.
My mum lost all her Taiwanese documents because she didn’t go to Taiwan for decades but were able to do a new id and passport by proving her identity, the authorities found her former address attached to the former id.
Am I right to believe that I qualify to apply for the permanent residency without living one year in Taiwan as my mum was Taiwanese at the time I was born and she had an address?
Thanks again for all the help:)

This is the process

Hi Jan30000,
As long as your mom also had Household Registration at the time of your birth, yes you skip the 1 year residency.

As for Medical, I meant you will need to need to do the check and then wait 7 days for the result.

Thanks a lot for your help
