I’m getting married next month to my Taiwanese partner next month in England but also need it recognised by Taiwan. I have tried asking how to do this with the embassies but you know what they are like, as useful as a chocolate teapot! Has anyone registered their marriage from England in Taiwan and how did they do it? We’re only in the country for a couple of weeks around Christmas time as well so I was also wondering if there was a way to do this from Taiwan or will I have to go back again to the U.K?
I don’t know if it’s possible for you but it’s often easier to have the legal aspect of marriage done in Taiwan first rather than other countries
But if you are married in the UK then you will need a copy of your marriage certificate, and a traditional chinese translation both authenticated by TECO, take this to the Household registration office your spouse is registered at, sign a Chinese name declaration on the spot, and done.
You don’t have to do this in Taiwan, TECO is responsible for assisting with household registration matters for Taiwanese citizens abroad. It is their responsibility to check the documents and forward to the HHRO so the registry can be updated
