Getting a phone but paying in installments

I’m trying to see about getting a new phone but paying in installments, however everywhere I looked this isn’t possible. In order to get one from a phone company they require me to prepay 1 year of phone bills. So why even bother with that? 1 year of phone bill is the same cost as the phone itself.

Is there some other way to do this?

Yeah the whole point of selling phones at the phone company is to get the phone cheap quick and easy to the customer so they can start making money.

I understand that but let’s say you get an iphone 11 pro, it’s like 10,000 with a contract but you also have to pay a year up front, so you end up paying the cost of a phone.

So why bother? Why not just get a phone and a cheap plan? I mean not everyone can fork over the money up front so that’s why you have the contract plans. But having to pay for a year up front almost negates the point of the contract.

If you have a credit card then you could pay in installments , however this could be different for every store
Another option is to buy the phone at online stores , like pchome which allow you to pay in installments

I don’t have a credit card, I have a debit card, and I heard installment plans don’t work for it.

And I am not sure I’d even qualify for any sort of installment plan as I don’t have a verifiable source of income. Is there any creative accounting I could do to make them up?? How do I prove an income when I’m paid in cash?

Using last year’s tax records is the easiest way.

I don’t have that either… not even sure how do pay tax on cash.
