Well, I’m finally heading out to see some of these rock formations I’ve heard about. I’ve done a number of searches and everyone says you “take the train to Jilong, and then the bus to Yeliu.” Okay, but am I going to have trouble figuring out which bus once I’m at the Jilong train station? Does anyone have any more specific advice/information on this?

You can catch a Taiwan Bus Company bus from the Taipei north station (at the main train station) heading toward Jinshan. Buses run every 15 minutes.
If you go up to Jilong there is a tourist info centre across from the train station with bus info in English.
