Glueless laminate flooring

Does anyone have any experience laying this stuff here in Taiwan? I’m thinking about putting it down myself but wondering if humidity in Taiwan is a concern. All the info online says no worries but I would prefer to hear from someone who has actually done it themselves. The guys in the store are always going to tell me it’s fine but who can you trust, so me being me I’ve decided to put my trust in a complete stranger online telling me it’s doable before jumping in.
Anyways any help or advice or opinions on the above would be appreciated.

Well, I live in a place with wood floors (local style) and I wouldn’t recommend that to anyone, especially considering the sloppy job they do putting it in here. It was in the house before we moved in, so not something we put in, but we had to replace a chunk on the top floor, as the balcony was leaning towards the house, so every time it rained, water would leak in and rotted a part of the floor…
Had a friend of mine put in proper laminate flooring for me in the UK, but I wasn’t there to see what he was doing the entire time, so I really don’t know. I’d presume that stuff would be better than what we have here, as it’s really hard, unlike this stuff which is actually quite soft (marks way too easily for one), so make sure you get the right stuff.
It’s nice in the winter as the floors aren’t ice cold, but they make little difference in the summer where tiles can help cool the place down a bit.

I would do the job myself so I reckon I could keep it up to my own standards. I think the soft ones are glueless vinyl. I’d def be going for the harder laminate ones.

No, this is wood alright, not vinyl, not talking about soft as in vinyl, but as in soft wood unlike the kind of hard wood normally used in laminate or wood floors. It marks very easily, as in run a chair with wheels on top of it and you got some nice marks in the floor… something I didn’t realize until it was too late…

I thought laminate flooring was something else, but it’s that fake looking wood. I didn’t know you could lay it down glueless. Is that when you play a sheet of plastic down first and the floor all fits together? I saw that at B&Q. I wouldn’t mind doing this to my study. Please let us know how it goes.

Yep that’s exactly what it is. I want to do my living/dining room. I was full steam ahead until my Mrs said she was worried about stuff (mould) growing under it, you know when the tile floors sometimes feel wet cause the humidity but I think that due to the plastic sheet and the fact that the floor will allow a certain amount of air to flow through it should be fine. Having said that I’m no expert and being Irish, humidity is something I only encountered here in Taiwan.

Oh right I thought you were talking about the fake wood effect stuff.
