Go-to Taiwanese delivery comfort food?

If I’m feeling lazy and feel I deserve getting a nice and not particularly healthy food delivery, my go-to is a slightly fancy burger. What are the Taiwanese and/or Chinese alternatives I should be considering?

My first thought was 鹵肉 lǔròu, tasty soft stewed meat on rice should do the trick no? But are there any other suggestions, or ideas for taking it up a level?

(I’m already aware that everyone on Forumosa believes food in Taiwan is unarguably world-class and very delicious.)
(I also happen to be in Kaohsiung and am grateful for the astonishingly comprehensive burger advice which I’ve taken advantage of a couple of times already.)

Edit: just to clarify, I’m not looking for something that looks or tastes similar to a burger. But something that delivers that same feeling and is a bit indulgent.

燒肉飯

The stinky tofu

Oyster omelette

肉圓

肉羹湯

碗粿 (Southern style)
擔仔麵 (Southern style)
控肉飯
炸肉粿
雞排
鹽酥雞

If you can find a really good one
大腸包小腸

But most places are crap

Hakka, at a good shop, is my go-to local comfort food. Less oily, not quite as simple as Taiwanese, more healthy. Seems like Hakka places tend to be good as they are focused on that style.

The replies to this question will naturally be pretty subjective, so here’s mine:

湯包

牛肉捲餅

and 刈包

I second your second choice

Not Taiwanese or Chinese but Korean Budae-jjigae aka Army stew is very much a comfort food with instant noodle, kimchi, tofu, sausage, some other stuff, and melted cheese.
I don’t know the chinese characters for this.

I love a good 麻油雞 when I’m not feeling great.

That’s a great one.

Also, if you know a good place, then fried rice is great comfort food as well. Although good ones are hard to come by these days.

A good steamed bun, the kind where the skin isn’t too fluffy and sweet, with meat juice locked inside, can be great too.

Exactly! I recently moved and discovered this small shop around the corner from my place, delicious 湯包 at 10NT each.

I second this!

Well that was easy!!
No idea there’d be Thai basil in the stir-fry - really nice.
Only 2-ways for me though. Third way is soup? I’m quite anti-soup, 湯包 are wasted on me.

… will have to wait until another day, hopefully it’s the kind of thing I could find in a Kaohsiung night market.

Will also definitely try to find a go-to Hakka dish or two. In Fujian I never got to grips with Minnan food which might be why I find TW food a bit hit or miss sometimes. But Hakka food seemed to suit me perfectly so hopefully I’ll like it just as much here.

Google map link?

Not sure if you meant me or Shaun008, but my 湯包 place is here:

As for the 3-way duck, I’ve only ever found them on mobile trucks, so the location is always changing. I suppose you could search 一鴨三吃 on Google maps.

I’ve had this before and agree, it’s deliciously satisfying. I have a recipe for it in my Taiwanese cookbook but haven’t tried making it yet. I’m curious, what’s the difference between southern and other styles?
