God I miss rock and roll (Live Concerts thread)

I’m fairly open to music and I do try to keep up, but (not ranting) but there is a lot of crap these days. I like banjos and string bands, Celtic stuff, the Dead of course, and jam bands, loud stuff and softer stuff…but damn man, I miss good ole R&R.

I just downloaded a video or two (typed in Live Concerts on Morpheus) and got Iron Maiden Live after Death from 1985, I saw that tour and they rucking focked! Now I’m am ignoring the world listening to and watching ACDC live from 1977.

DAMN man.

I miss the rocks and the rolls. :sunglasses:

(Also, getting Bob Marley live in Zimbabwe. whoot!)

You really owe yourself a Dave Chen and the Muddy Ramblers’ gig. Nothing like being at a live gig.

Fukin A JDude!
DL some Black Oak Arkansas and rock on!

Oh I have seen them several times and enjoy muchly.

Just miss the Day I guess. When skinny guys could sing about Rock and Roll using those words and the main lyrics…ahhh heaven.

Is there a single person in the developed world who doesn’t think that music from their high school days is more super awesome than the music today?

It’s not that really. I think I enjoy music MORE now than before, and a lot of the stuff I listened to in HS was garbage. But certain music, R&R in particular ACDC, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and others have stuck and never lost their listenability. But to FIND this kind of music nowadays…well, snot easy.

hows the live acdc treating you? i used to work for mark evans, the original acdc bass player… the tales he told… good times

It was a killer performance but with a German crowd which clapped politely and stayed right in their seats. lol

And wtf was Angus on anyhow?? :sunglasses:

rock n roll ain’t dead, JD. it’s just taking a break before it busts loose again.

The Bob Marley show was OUTstanding and the Nirvana MTV concert was purty darn good too.

Anyone else have a suggestion as to what other good live music can be found in webland and viewed?

I’ve been listening to Silverchair lately via youtube and Daniel Johns sounds great live! Apparently they are releasing a new album in 2007. Grunge was just beginning to titter on the brink of extinction when I started middle school with teeny bopper groups being all the rage. Yet I remember thinking the older teens with their ripped jeans and plaid shirts were oh so cool. I actually enjoy a lot of the alternative/indie rock bands out there now who have their own unique but often retro sound.

Btw, has anyone noticed the number of kids wearing Rolling Stones shirts here? One of my students who is 13 was wearing one and I asked her if she was into them. She just smiled shyly and nodded. Meanwhile my own mom won’t let me wear Rolling Stone earrings because she finds the tongue offensive. Paint it black!

Don’t know about where in webland to hear these boyz (and gal), but they ROCK. You said you like Celtic music. Just saw them live at a West Virginia farm in the mountains: Glengarry Bhoys.

Have been going to a few folk festivals lately, and no they aren’t rockers as you say in your original post, but it sounds like you may be willing to give 'em a try (BTW ACDC - djes - they rocked . . . Back in Black . . . ). Anyway . . .

Apparently… nothing. Just booze and insanity.

Would love to see that Cash at SQ footage.

what’s wrong with ranting? you wanna rant, rant away, i’ll listen, instead of telling you that you can’t rant and calling you a hateful person.

Rock will never die. Try ‘Murder City Devils’ if you haven’t heard them already (though I think they died a few years ago, but more current than AckDack). Better yet, if you’re in Taiwan use your old CDs for scooter reflectors and go see 8mm Sky, Biao Ge (表哥), Chairman (董事長), LTK (濁水溪公社), or a foreigner band I’ve seen recently called Sky Burial that puts on a good show. Funny so many rockers around and most of the shows I see in Taipei are practically empty except for single-Sprite swizzling Taida and Shida students. The Taiwan bands I mentioned are mostly pretty old (I’ve been working nights and don’t get to the Wall, Underworld, or Riverside as often as I used to) but they still play I think, and if not as often as they used to there are new ones to replace them that might play more if people went to their shows instead of crowding into Luxy every weekend.

Johnny Cash at San Quentin <-- Would love to see this, jdsmith
