Good tea set

I"m looking for a good clay pot tea set, the only one’s I’ve seen are in the touristy shops, and your paying touristy prices, looking for a good set at a reasonable price.

cheers

What’s a reasonable price to you and where have you looked?

under $1000

i’ve seen a few, and for some are asking $1500 for just the tea pot alone

You should expect to pay a few thousand for a good set. Mine cost NT6000 though it’s got a Tang style bowl and not a pot for brewing.

Try Yingge but don’t expect anything but a cheap set for under a 1000. Or just pop into a little corner shop that sells everything.

Try this shop : tw.bizpo.net/node/245252

they are very nice and will help you chose what is the best for you according to your budget.

but as mucha man said, with 1000 NT you will only get cheap ugly stuff.

I remember their cheapest teapots are around 200 NT. Add the Ocean, the cups, the tools, and you’ll get easily to 1000 nt with cheap stuff that won’t grow old.

the also ave teapots a few hundred years old for more than 50 000 nt

Which means that the poster will probably end up with a bottom-of-the-barrel teapot made in the PRC. I wouldn’t want to regularly consume anything steeped in such a container.

OP, you might also want to have a look at [Yixing Teapots/Gongfu/laorencha tea pots

Nor would I, but you get what you pay for.

Wow. That’s true! What if there is lead??
I completely didn’t think of that.
Jeez, thanks cause I’m in the same position as OP and was going to settle for a cheap thing at the NT stores.

hehe, this post just struck me funny. Not being able to find a good tea set in Taiwan is like not being able to find salt in the ocean.

But hey are not cheap here, thats for sure. Either way, its all about the tea tray away

you mean I have to get a tea tray as well?
damn; I was just going to serve the tea off of a naked woman like all those fancy japanese tea houses :beatnik:

thanks for the replies all, I"m sure I"ll find a good set if I poke around long enough, just aint’ going to spend 10,000 on one simple clay tea pot. :noway:

no you dont need one. I was only saying the artwork on a lot of wooden trays is just gorgeous. Actually you can buy some really amazing made in china wood tea trays for under $2000. its all machine done, but pretty still.

before i moved to taiwan i just did tea on a normal serving tray (basically a fancier version of what mcdonalds uses…lets be honest)

After coming here and getting accustomed to the real Taiwanese way of drinking tea (about as varied as drinking ethanol in canada though) i will say tea trays here are just down right fucking ingenious and ideal. you dont need to be fancy, you can by good enough tea trays here for a few hundred NT, plastic and ugly, but effective!

Ah, the ancient art of the canadian ethanol consumption

it’s up there with the pre dawn baby seal clubbing ceremony, and the running of the touqes.

although i will never support or agree with seal clubbing, I will defend our great white ethanol addiction to the end. Just as much as I will defend Taiwan’s tea (and Kaoliung :stuck_out_tongue: ) addiction to the end.
