Good wooden toys or puzzles

I’m looking for a store that sells wooden blocks (remember the ones that you could stack up and came in a small wagon) or other good wooden toys or puzzles for kids. I actually thought they would be really easy to find and puzzles are not too difficult to find but toys are hard to come by.
Any other recommendations for a good store with educational toys would also be appreciated. We’ve been to Toy’s r Us and it’s ok but there’s a lot of over-priced plastic there.

If you’re looking for those 3-D wooden puzzles, I know loads of places. Let me know.

shinkkong mitsukoshi, sogo and miramar all have childrens departments that sell those toys. we got a great wooden toy for our son.

My kid is only 1 so we’re looking for much simpler stuff.

I had a look in sogo but they didn’t have much at all just lots of lego and barbies so I presumed most dept stores would be the same. I’ll check mitsokushi.

There used to be a great toy shop on Bade Rd next to living mall which had tons of educational toys , many wooden. I got a great tree house there plus some cherry wood blocks, felt board story board and more. The last time I drove by it was closed but I heard they had just moved.

I will keep my eyes open for it as it was the only place in Taipei I had found that had good quality toys but I’m pretty sure I got my simple ABC building blocks from Toy’s R Us. The one on XinShng Road has a small wodden toy section.

For now I do my shopping at these two shops ;

We got a great big linen bag full of wooden blocks of various shapes and colours. Very very nice. Got it with those credit card “points” to get, so I don’t know the shop, but I think there’s a web address printed on the bag. I’ll check when I get home.

Piwacit - That sounds exactly like what I’m looking for. It would be great if you could remember the name and maybe I could find out where they moved to.

Sandman - Thanks mate I’ll definitely have a look at that address when you get it.

Miramar definitely has a shop…the one next to toy land on the 4th floor. Also the living mall has wooden toys on the kids floor…small shop but bursting over!

Sorry, Irish, there’s a wee Chinese logo on the bag but no web address. However, the wife tells me that I know of a very nice shop very near the corner of Yungkang Street and Jinhua Street, opposite the small park, which sells wooden children’s toys. I have absolutely no recollection of this shop, but if the wife says I know it, then I guess I know it.

And on a similar note, does anyone know where I can get a set of Cuisenaire Rods? I remember having fun playing with those as a wee lad. They use 'em for teaching early maths and stuff.

The Good Toy Shop has a lot of wooden toys, blocks, games, doll houses, etc. Not cheap but good quality. There are a number of locations around Taipei. Addresses in Chinese:

That link sent my virus-alert programs into conniptions!

It did?!? It did nothing here. I guess open at your own risk?

I noticed before closing the page that one of the addresses is a basement address on Zhongshan S. Rd. Anyone know which cross-street its closest to?

Thanks Asiababy thats exactly what I’m looking for.

By the way I tried to register on parentpages.net but I never recieve the confirmation mail and haven’t heard anything back from the site admin. Does anyone else have problems with this?

irishmoe,

Sometimes people do have issues registering. The fastest thing to do would be, drop a nice PM to braxtonhicks here on forumosa and ask to be added. You can also ask to get added to the cityplaygroup mailing list at the same time if you wish.

like the ‘nice’. but I know what you mean…

She is very busy and has a warning on parentpages that it takes a few days for her to approve reigstrations.

The Good Toys Shop has many locations including Miramar and GunangFu Road near ZhongXiao

Anyone know where I can find Cuisenaire rods? Went through old suggestions on the site yesterday, checked a couple of shops, came up dry.

I still haven’t found any here. Thinking of asking a sister to send me a set. I’d offer to order two, but you know me – by the time I actually get around to it, Willow will probably be doing her Master’s.

On another note, a year or two later after the earlier posts, DON’T buy wooden blocks! They’ll drive you absolutely batshit crazy, and they hurt like hell when you stand on them in the night. We got a great big box of different-shaped close-cell foam ones, and they are WAY! better.
