Anyone have any info or experience to share on current models and usage?
I was just getting ready to purchase the latest GoPro Hero 10 Black but seeing an overwhelming number of serious complaints about the Gopro Quik app, and their cloud, and just simple things like moving files off of the device.
I also wonder how easy/difficult it is to return the device within a couple weeks to the Taiwan GoPro store where purchased.
I only have the āsession 5ā tiny version, and only use it as dashcam on the scooter. But even with this very limited usage, Iām super annoyed by the software and try to avoid it as much as possible.
Maybe Iām doing something wrong, but it seems simply so broken and unprofessional. Example: while using the app to delete videos from the camās sdcard (there is no mode for overwriting the oldest videos) the camera will automatically turn off after a very short while. To avoid this, I have to press a menu button every few seconds. Only this way it will not go to sleep while Iām using it with the app.
I had a GoPro years ago, but this year bought a DJI Osmo Action. It was only $199 USD, less than half the cost of the comparable GoPro. Check out reviews ā itās basically 1:1 in performance.
They released a new version recently ā I donāt know anything about it. The original model is fine.
Bought two of them after watching positive reviews.
The first died when I put it under water for the first time and the battery was not completely pressed in.
I put that on me, but partly blamed them for the design that allowed for a seemingly closed camera that was not completely closed.
So I bought another one. Some of the footage has been ok, but some is completely unusable. There are major issues, at least in my camera, that should not be there. Never had any problems with my GoPros.
Also, the cards are difficult to get in and out for whatever brilliant reason.
I hardly use these type of cameras anymore. But if I had to buy one, Iād buy a GoPro not an Osmo.
I have a GoPro 10 black.
Yes uploading to cloud can be a problem and using with a Mac M1 also faulted.
To upload from camera itself you need 3gb free on memory card to buffer with and 2gb if trying with phone that gets extremely hot! Takes ages both ways if upload completeās!
Doing from MacBook M1 just wouldnāt finish uploads.
I found doing from camera was more successful using USB-C from a power socket. UK 240v.
bigger than I expected with short battery life.
I used a $80usd Campark before and was happy with results.
The GoPro was a gift I personally wouldnāt buy one.
Using cloud as purchase price is reduced by Ā£200 (Ā£150) cloud Ā£49.99 to sign up.Donāt get me wrong itās a great deal! Unlimited cloud storageand free camera replacement.
However GoPro software is useless.
GoPro are not updating Quick for Mac or PC only for phone!
Memory card is nuisance to remove, open case remove battery to transfer to computer.
As I say using a USB-C cable power socket to camera uploads works, Takes long time 4.2gbx2 11 hours and camera very hot (my experience).
Good parts, for action fantastic, stabilise very good and keeping horizon, I used iMovie to stabilise with Campark no need with GoPro.
I can show you video taken from cloud and from YouTube using Ā£80 Campark, problem is YouTube reduces bit rate where as GoPro Quick cloud doesnāt.

Picked up a GoPro Hero 10 Black. After a lot of shopping research dropped by Ammo Depot that has good reviews for pricing and assistance.
Even though I donāt live nearby I shopped here purely based on internet reviews and comments. They were great. Friendly, lots of energetic discussion on using GoPro and accessories in different situations. I highly recommend Ammo Depot even if just interesting in talking about GoPro or other action cameras, drones, etc.
$16500 for GoPro Hero 10 Black which is $500 cheaper than the official GoPro shop. They threw in a couple 64Gb high speed SD cards, mounting accessories, etc. freebies.
Had about 10 days and no problems at all with operation, software, app. The app worked nice for some automatic video editing but Iām using other software. Vidoes transfer wirelessly to iPad and android phone. Can also use other transfer options like SD card.
We have a GoPro. I canāt remember the model but itās a new one because we just got it this year. It was so, so cool to take pictures and videos while snorkeling at Green Island. My son took this one of me swimming down to and through the famous heart about 12 meters in depth. We also used it while cycling several times. But I think the underwater shots are what make the camera worth buying.
