Green Turtle Ecological Camp in Wangan, Penghu

The “2012 Wangan Green Turtle Ecological Camp” will be held on August 2-5. It is our first attempt to hold an English camp for foreigners. Thus we’re offering a special discount rate for a maximum of 10 participants only!

We have held Green Turtle Ecological Camp (in Chinese) for 6 years since eco-tourism become more and more popular. In the camp, besides presenting different aspects of ecological concepts, we give you a chance to experience the lifestyle in a traditional fishing village, and acknowledge the crisis our ocean is facing today.

This year’s Green Turtle Ecological Camp will be held on August 2-5, with limited opportunities and a maximum of 10 participants. During the camp, you will learn about sea turtles from all aspects, with a tour through the Green Turtle Tourism and Conservation Center with professional guides. Also, you will experience through simulation how sea turtles come ashore to lay eggs, with luck, you might even get a chance to see a real-time egg-laying show!

In addition, we will invite marine researchers and cultural workers from Penghu to guide you through Traditional Penghu architecture, customs and culture, which reflect the wisdom and strong adaptive abilities of our ancestors. We welcome you and your friends to visit Wangan and participate in our exquisitely arranged camp!

This is a good idea. Do you mean first attempt to hold a camp in English? Because quite a lot of foreigners in Taiwan can understand Chinese, plus they might want to attend with their Taiwanese family.

Yes, it’s the first time we’re trying to organize an all-English camp. We have camps in Chinese during summer for five years already, so this year we’re trying something different. Not many people know about Wangan, but any friend that I bring to Wangan, love the little island!

It’s difficult to find time to translate during the regular camps, which is shorter, but we’d like to introduce this little island to those who don’t speak Chinese. That’s why we organized this camp. Thank you for your suggestions, and please feel free to ask any questions.

Due to the recent typhoon the Green Turtle Eco-Tour has been rescheduled to the 11th and 12th of August.

This is a great opportunity to experience Wangan in a conservation setting, and with the expertise of local researchers and volunteers.
