Guest posting

Guests can post in the following forums:
Travel
Health Care
Job and Teaching Job Listings
Volunteer Opps
For Hire

The job ones make sense, but I thought travel and health might have been accidental (maybe not).

Also thought it would be a good idea to hide the flame forum from guests. Since it’s auto pruned and not really a forum of “substance” why let guests see it? I’m still running a campaign for a forum where guests can reply (right now travel and health care). I think there needs to be a place where the lurking internet user can put their toe in to test the water.

Not that this is a problem, but I remember it saying something like 66 before the upgrade. There must be a happy medium between guest posting and registration.

I agree. Discussion forums are for registered members only. I’ll fix this now

Good thinking. I’ll look into it. No promises, tho

I don’t know about this. “…test the water”? Guest posting seems to encourage messages that are ultimately moderated out. Not allowing unregistered guests to post is mostly to save the time of the moderators.

The job listing forums do not allow replies – so allowing unregistered posts here seems “safe” from a time saving point of view.

I do not believe there were 60+ users online back then. I hadn’t fully installed the Google mod, so a good number of those 60+ visitors were probably Google Spiders, and not real people. The full Google mod limits Google to one presence. So the 31 who were online on 12 Dec are probably at least 30 distinct, real people.

I wouldn’t hold my breath for a return of unregistered guest posting on Segue. Not that I don’t welcome guests (far from it), but I value the time the moderators of Segue put in much much more.

I hope that the pre-modded phpBB’s that I post up in the Tech forum these next few weeks will encourage some to set up, administer and moderate their own Taiwan-oriented forums. Btw, there are already a number of pre-modded phpBB installations over at www.phpbbhacks.com if you don’t want to wait for mine (I’ll just be making sure the Trad Chinese language set is in place in my pre-moddeds)

Pre-modded? That’s an excellent idea. I’ll be having a look right now.

Thanks again gus

That might explain that one then, but I do remember plain as day the number being at 66. I think when I started back in August the high was in the high teen’s. And I remembered watching it do a steady increase (up to 66) since I’ve been here. Maybe when you release your modded version I’ll use it start start segue.xxx :smiling_imp:

See, I’ve never seen this before:
1 now online :: 1 Registered, 0 Hidden and 0 Guests
I’m all alone :frowning:

I guess it could be the holidays or something. But the holidays are no excuse to not be on segue. :imp:

I wonder how many of us connect to segue from work more than at home. What does this say about our work productivity if it’s a bit more?

My guess is that the percentage is high. It says that we are bored silly with work, but at least we don’t spend all day on porn sites.
