Five o’clock yesterday afternoon I was just getting ready to start one of my classes and all the kids start yelling “bing bao-2”(hail). A word I had never heard before because in 12 years I had never seen it in Taiwan. Some of the ice pellets were about the size of a marble. I live about a 40 minute drive outside the center of Kaohsiung city. Anyone else get this yesterday or any other time? Made for a nice cool evening and was cool this morning as well, almost needed a jacket on the bike.

I have only seen hail twice in my time here, different locations. If you live mid island there are some twisters occasionally.
Hail gets formed in the tops of thunderheads, at like 20,000 to 60,000 feet. It’s gonna be cold up there no matter whether it’s scorching hot down here or not.
There was one in Nantou on Saturday, made a mess of the tea plantations.
