Many people don’t know it, but Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was born on July 18, 1918 into the Royal Xhosa tribe of the Thembu. The world knows him as a freedom fighter who spent most of his life imprisoned for his beliefs and fight against Apartheid. To most South Africans today he is simply Tata Mandela (Father Mandela) or Madiba.
Today (Tuesday July 16) is the 88th birthday of one of the celbrated sons of South Africa: Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela.
