I’m having a hard time grabbing copy for a quote this for example that should include my own self as the original quote.
Only me having the problem?

Or don’t quote anything. Makes it more interesting for the reader.
I have the same problem.
However, it only happens if I quote by selecting the text first.
A workaround is to use the quote button (speech balloon ) when writing your message instead.
I haven’t noticed. Sometimes using > tags can make things easier, not sure if you did

previously quoted text
my quoted text
or
[quote="yyy, post:5, topic:186198, full:true"]

I’ve noticed. You need to change the quotee’s identity manually.

Not if you use the quote button
See, how it shows above? No need to change the quotee’s identity.
The only thing I did was to remove the part of the quote that I didn’t want to highlight.
It’s not really a fix, but an easier workaround at least.
