I don’t know about lumber and all that jazz, but there is a street in Taipei called 五金街 (Hardware Street) where you find row upon row of hardware stores, selling everything from galvanized ducting to jackhammers: g.co/maps/e3ke8

It’s basically located to the back of Ximen Ding…

The only place that I know of that sells lumber is B&Q (i.e. the Home Depot of the U.K. and Taiwan).
