Hartford 200 - A good buy?

I just saw a post on Tainan Bulletin.

Someone is trying to sell their 2005 Hartford 200 ASAP.
Asking for 32,000
claims he bought it for 49,000

  1. What do you think a reasonable price for this bike is?
Considering that the bike needs to sell quickly, what would be a good offer?

  2. Is the Hartford 200 a bike worth having for the white plate crowd?

My heart is on the Suzuki TU 250, but I figure, it still might be some time before I can actually get one of those. In the meantime, maybe I can use this Hartford as a learner’s bike until I get the Suzuki. Just a thought.

How fast and strong is this 200 btw? I wonder how it would compare to a KTR 150.

Also, I am 6’2’’. I’ve never sat on a Hartford, but they look low… not sure if the 200 is higher.

Thanks in advance for the input guys, I really appreciate it. I think time is a factor on this, so I’d love to get your thoughts.

I had a Hartford 150 for a couple of years. Big disappointment. OK, the 200cc should make up for the lack of power (just), but the transmission was horrible (chain ALWAYS coming off), some kind of tick-tick-tick noise coming from a small chain inside the engine, lots of mechanical problems. I wouldn’t buy another one, even a 200cc. Go srtaight for a 250 cc; I have the Suzuki Grasstracker & love it.

Hi! You are the first person I’ve ran across who actually owns a Suzuki TU 250…

I know it’s off topic, but I’d love to hear about ! Maybe they will want us to move this discussion to another thread, if so, that’s fine…

Anyways…

Can you give me a little review of your bike? I’d love to see a picture. How long have you had it? What year is it? How much did you pay?

The Suzuki is one of the options I am considering. I am 6’2’’, do you think the bike is physically too small for me? How tall are you? Is it a comfortable ride?
How is the bike for riding with a passenger? What is the top speed you’ve reached on it?

Sorry for all the questions, but I am very interested in learning about this bike from someone who currently has one.

Hartford makes nice-looking bikes. Mechanically, I’m less sure. I posted about the 2009 Hartford Mini125 I owned for a year. I bought it new, it was crap, I sold it at a big loss. The problem was the fuel-injection system, admittedly not a problem with a 2005 bike. But I am forever soured on Hartford (as well as electronic fuel-injection).

I’ve had several Sanyang “Wild Wolves,” and one Kymco “farmer’s bike.” All were good, though the Kymco seemed to rust faster than the Sanyangs.

Also, I am 6'2''. I've never sat on a Hartford, but they look low... not sure if the 200 is higher.

Nope

i have a 200 and have been happy with it. Top speed isn’t high (maybe i’m a cowered), the fastest i’ve been is 90. but i use it a commuter in the city so it’s not an issue. For 2 up it’s fine as well.

I’ve had my Hartford 200cc for two years now, runs perfectly well, the only issue I have is that the shifting pedal sticks sometimes (it’s been this way since I bought it). It’s a fun ride, if you like how it looks don’t let mechanical worries discourage you.

M’y Hartford hd150 from a year far enough in history for me to stop courting has taken me round Taiwan and many other places without anything more than a regular service and chain change. Brilliant little bike

I bought an HD150 new 2 years ago, drove it mostly in the mountains. No complaints at all.

I’ve had a Hartford 150 for 1.5 yrs and I’ve loved it. Not sure what else someone needs in a motorcycle especially if you drive a lot in the city. I’ve also driven a lot in the mountains (w and w/o passengers) and there’s enough oomph for all the roads I’ve been on. At this point I have zero interest in a bigger moto but I’m a lot more interested in adding a car and the advantages (comfort, AC, a roof, freeways, etc…) it has.

Mechanically there have been very few problems. fuel sensor, spark plug, battery, low beam type stuff. Except for the first it’s standard replacement stuff.
