I am planning a trip to Palau, if you have been there, what do you recommend?
Where did you stay? Price? was it good?
Thank for any info on that.
I am also looking on the net, but would like some other opinions as well.
Contact MJB. I’ll PM you his facebook page. He’s been there quite a few times. YOu are so lucky. May be the greatest place on earth. Have a great time.
Thank you, I sent him a message.
Great place! if you are not looking for shopping malls, that’s a paradise for you! I guess one of the few places on Earth not crowded by tourists.
I am sorry I don’t remember the name of the hotel we stayed in. It’s not a cheap island.
We stayed at the Palau Pacific Resort. It was good as it had its own private beach with some of the most amazing snorkeling just a few steps into the water. Seemed like it was one of the few hotels with beach access (things may have changed, this was about 8 years ago).
It was the same two years ago
Palau is the most beautiful place on Earth. Stay at the PPR (mentioned above) if you can afford it. It’s probably a good NT$10,000 more than any other 5 Star.
I stayed at The Penthouse. It’s run by the President’s (perhaps ex pres by now) wife. I think it was like US$80 a night. It was very clean. Rooms were reasonably sized. Really nice folks. We got in at 4 am and they sent a driver to pick us up. Then they told us to get some sleep and we could register/pay when we get up. Here’s a link to some of my pics when I went a few years ago. I’m going back next March too!

Hello, it’s been awhile.
I’ve done 6 trips there…Keep in mind all were dedicated dive trips, and I did nothing but dive and sleep.
My last trip was 5 years ago…The PPR is still the most upscale resort on the island and the only beach in the vicinity of Koror. Palau is a destination that requires a lot of boat travel to experience it’s natural beauty, and can therefore be more expensive upon arrival than other, cheaper Asian destinations.
The diving is still second to none, Sam’s dive tours still sets the standard for all diving resorts and beyond. It’s expensive, at well over 100USD for 2 dives. But, the boat ride alone to the dive sites is so amazing, it’s worth the money on it’s own…The diving? Oh so sweet gravy.
Enjoy your trip
Thanks for all the feedback. I guess PPR is the place to stay, well I have a closer look at it.
Thanks again
We stayed at papago (Taiwan run), no beach but has mangrove. We stayed there because travel agents here made it cheaper to buy a ticket and stay at that resort than it would of been for us to buy just the plane ticket on our own, something that still amazes me to this day. May want to look into packages, although i generally cannot stand packages.
I’m not a beach guy, I’m a nature guy so it was fine. rent a care and drive around, its all paved now. the very northern tip has one resort/hotel something. forget the name but they rent kayaks and have a very amazing beach, incredibly romantic if you are going with a non Taiwanese (my wife got scared of ghosts and cried extremely heavily…). It’s a nice swim, coral is all dead there though!
When we were there we went out with a nice guy and his kid who own their own boat and do tours. It was $450/day but family. Those big tour companies like sams or the Taiwan-run ones, in my opinion, suck as you don’t get the custom stuff which really makes a difference. Unfortunately, shortly after we left his wife died due to child birth complications, so if you want a memorable trip with someone who is local, not Korean/Japanese/Taiwanese who exploit and poach the wildlife, i suggest him. If you want, pm me and i will give you his email. He is one of the nicest folks i met there, and his family is pretty cool too
I don’t dive, so cant comment on that aspect, but renting a car for a few days and doing it yourself is highly recommended. Some really cool things there. Try and drive off the beaten track. We met an old farmer of crabs there and he took a couple ours out to chat with us and give us a show of his farm. The crab farming in the mangroves there as you walk on logs above it all was a personal highlight.
Its not cheap there though…we lived off hamburgers as it was the cheapest thing to eat
Be sure to hike to the waterfall. The hike is not comfy, but man is it cool! Jungle tour is pretty corny, but you do at least get a real chance of seeing a crocodile, and they let you feed them with meat on a stick. It’s the first time i saw baby and daddy feeding a good 15 foot croc, wonderful.
It’s so much better than Fiji/Guam etc. I’m not sure about diving, but everything else anyway. Its also the only -natural- place in Asia my wife seriously wants to return to. That says something.
