Have you ever bought anything off shopee.tw?

Exactly.

Update.
I filed the police report and sent the image of the police report to the seller via Shopee’s chat feature. I also sent it to Shopee.
Within 30 min the seller contacted me apologizing and gave a snapshot of their chat history with Shopee customer service today. They are refunding the $360 to my account by way of Shopee credit and ā€œapologizedā€ that the actual item is ā€œno longer availableā€ and will cancel the active order. (Obviously the item for sell never existed).

So, in the end, justice sort of prevailed. Wish I could have gotten my cash back though, rather than Shopee credit.

The police report is in the police’s hands and is up to them what to do with it. I can sue, but that is about it. I doubt they will go after the seller for just $360, and considering the money was kind of returned.

If you add a bank account to your Shopee account, it should automatically transfer the money to there. :slightly_smiling_face:

Another example why Shopee might not be the best platform to buy branded things / high-value items.

I’m getting tired of using Shopee due to fake pricing scams.

Shopee allows a seller to list several different variants of the same product under the same listing. Sellers abuse this to trick you into clicking it.

For example, a single listing might contain a $999 100W charger and a $299 USB-C cable. Then when you’re searching to buy a charger, the search results show ā€œ100W charger - $299ā€. Only when you click on the listing you realize $299 is for a different product.

This trick started off being used by scammy shops, but now it’s used by about 90% of all sellers. This has made searching by price virtually impossible.

Shoppee is awful and yet it’s the top online platform. From what I can see most of the stuff my wife has gotten on there is frankly rubbish.

Same, and then she’s disappointed, even when I point out the signs before she buys!

I use shopee to find physical stores. Then go there if I can.

Done that for aquarium supplies. Camping stuff as well I guess

Buying any kind of shelves or furniture on there , most of the time it’s super flimsy shit with some major cost down defects …I can recommend a good portable coffee grinder though.

Finally something positive to report. The Shopee app now automatically translates listing titles and descriptions from Chinese to English.

This is just killer as I was constantly using screenshot + Google translate before.

The UI is also completely in English, making this the most foreigner friendly shopping app.

Website has an English option now as well. :star_struck:

This is actually not a positive thing for me. If you can read Chinese it’s more helpful to just read the original listing in Chinese. The translations are ridiculous and at times make no sense. I like the website settings in English, they’ve had that option for a long time already. But would like to turn off the auto-translations if possible. Can’t find where to do that yet.

I’ve been using Coupang more lately and I’m pretty happy with it. It has almost everything Shopee offers, but with a better interface (English too), fewer scams, and real prices.

This week I ordered 13 bags of chips (don’t ask), and according to the Shopee app they’re being delivered as 13 separate packages!

The seller I bought from is Shopee Marketplace, which is some sort of official storefront. When I previously bought from there, the item was just placed in a locker at my local Shopee store with no shipping packaging or label. So I’m guessing the purchase is fulfilled by hand by an affiliated local retailer, rather than being shipped there by Shopee.
