I lost my wallet in a taxi in Taipei. I am not sure which taxi and that’s the problem. Here is what happened:
In the morning I had the front office call me a taxi. After I waited for a bit I went downstairs whereby there was a taxi waiting out front. At this hotel taxi’s don’t usually wait out front so I assumed it was my taxi. Upon entering the driver informed that he was designated for someone else. I left the taxi and managed to leave my wallet in there. It wasn’t until I arrived at my destination with the other taxi that I realized what had happened.
Well I figured I could just call all the companies here 1 one by 1 as I hear the taxi drivers here are quite honest and would likely drop off the wallet in their lost and found bin. Unfortunately, only 1 out of all the possible companies understands English so calling them is out of the question. Not to mention most of the companies use an automated service and I can not understand anything it says. I am all alone here and I do not know anyone who can help me. The people at hotel, although speak a bit of English, do not understand English well enough to the point where I can actually have a conversation with them. I need someone who is truly bilingual.
MY PROPOSITION:
I will pay anyone $500 NT who is willing to meet me in Taipei and sit at a coffee shop and phone every company I have listed and ask and make a claim regarding my wallet.
This shouldn’t take longer than an hour and it would help me immensely. The wallet has a lot of very important content, and not to mention a great deal of sentimental value for me.
If anyone is will to help me I would greatly appreciate it.
Please respond back to this page or PM me if you are interested.
OP, I agree with the above–until you can contact all the businesses you want to, check with the police station.
The same thing happened to me–lost my wallet somewhere between KTV and home; I’m guessing in the taxi but I never knew for sure. The evening after I discovered my wallet missing I checked with the police station (in Taoyuan) and it was there. Less the NT$900 that was inside, but everything else was there.

The same thing just happened to me. Called the taxi company but it didn’t help. How much hope do I have to find my stuff? Do people usually get their lost items back in Taiwan? Will check with the police after work today.
I lost my wallet in a taxi twice. The first time the taxi driver called me and drove by my place first thing in the morning to give it back to me. He didn’t even want the reward (15% of the money I had in the walley). The second time the taxi driver dropped the wallet at the police station closest to my place (200m down the road ^_^) and I got a phone call from Taipei’s finest asking me to go and pick the wallet up.
Go back to your hotel and ask them to help you. Tell them the situation and ask them to pull out the video of that day around whatever time. They may be able to get the license plate number or at least the taxi company. If there’s no video, ask them which taxi company they partner with and start with that. I don’t think they log the service but someone may still remember something. You just need to ask. Good luck!
Thank you all for the info. Today, the police called to the building administration where I live, asked me to come pick up the wallet at the police station nearby. I came and the process was very quick. Get everything back without losing a coin. +1.
