Help with Tainan HSR?

I want to visit a place in Tainan but heard that the Tainan train station is separate from the HSR station. Is this true?

I need to know how far the 2 station are.

Specifically, I want to visit a place near Daqiao station.

After I reach Tainan HSR, how long will it take me to get to the regular train station?
And from there, how often are the trains to Daqiao and how long does the journey take?

Thank you!

As far as I remember, tainan HSR will take you To a town called Guiren and then you catch a free shuttle to Tainan city about 30 minutes or so. Or hop on a local TRA train Shalun Line to Tainan main station. Daqiao station is 1 train stop away from tainan main station on a TRA train, so very close.

The local train link is probably the simplest method, since (as Dan said) you’ll end up right in the station you’re looking for. It’s about 20 mins on the train to Tainan city, with ~20 mins between trains. When you get off the HSR just follow the signs. Remember that when you go back again, the HSR station is, I think, called “Shalun”, not “HSR”.

Sorry, I don’t understand. I thought the station is called Tainan? And we use the Shalun line?

Does the Shalun train from Tainan HSR go directly to Daqiao station, or do I have to transfer somewhere?

I think what you need is a quick look at google map

There is a local train link system called Shalun line. It is an independent system, connecting Tainan’s HSR station to the TRA’s main north-south lines at Zhongzhou station (中洲).

You need walk from Tainan HSR station to Shalun station right next door, which takes about 5 minutes or so. You then need to take the Shalun line and change train at Zhongzhou station for any north bound local train (區間車), which would take you to Daqiao station (大橋). As previously mentioned, Daqiao is one station past Tainan main station.

Google says it takes 28 minutes, in reality, changing trains and walking and waiting would probably take up to 1 hour.

Where’s your starting point, taking the TRA would sometimes get you there quicker.

Google Maps can answer this question, so give that a try. The Tainan HSR is far south and a bit east of the city center, whereas Qiaotou is directly north of downtown. We’re talking a distance of about 15 km. You could take the Shalun line and transfer to the main TRA line, and take a train up to Qiaotou – the trip would be anywhere between half an hour and an hour, according to Google Maps.

Alternatively, there should be plenty of taxis waiting at the HSR, if you’re not worried about cost.

Aaaaaaand hansioux beat me to it.

1 hour seems quite long…
would it be faster to take the shuttle bus from HSR Tainan station to Chimei medical center, and walk back to Daqiao station? I understand the bus ride is around 30 minutes.

Depends on the time of day you’re planning on taking the shuttle. That area often has lots of road work/congestion. I suggest you stick with the trains.
