High-end hifi (NAD, Paradigm) and acoustic dampener, Taipei?

anyone know of a good and real hifi store in the taipei area? i don’t want any rubbish, bang for your buck type of stuff. I would like to get some NAD and Paradigm monitor series equipment (which is what i have back home).

Also, a place (may be the same place) which sells acoustic dampener stuff which will make my apartment a bit better for acoustics. at the moment, it echoes like anything and i would like to dampen the acoustics a bit.

I enjoy my music and i enjoy hearing it on a decent system. mp3 players and computer speakers don’t do it for me.

Call the distributer for NAD in Taiwan to get a list of dealers / shops in Taipei. Paradigm also has a dealer locator on their website.

Expect it to be expensive though, imported consumer electronics are not cheap here (far from it).

If you just want to look around go to Zhonghua North Road near Ximending. There are some shops on the left and right, just south of Zhongxiao West Road.
Also Hankou and Kaifeng Street that cross Zhonghua Rd. in the above area have lot’s of hifi / AV shops, but most of them sell the cheaper stuff (and sometimes the real cheap things). There are some more high(er)-end shops around but they are scattered all over the city.

If you figure the NAD/Paradigm stuff is too expensive and you want something cheaper but still good (IMO) check out Usher Audio. It’s local made, their shop is on Kaifeng Street. Their stuff gets good ratings overseas and you can buy it here at half the price or even less.

Here is a list of the members of the Taiwan Audio Association: TAIWAN AUDIO ASSOCIATION Member List

Unfortunately it’s not sorted by manufacturer, but you can click their links and look through. Or pick up some local magazine to find the addresses of dealers.

And it appears that there will be a high-end hifi show this coming August: Click the red button top right

Acoustic dampening material… (aka “pritex”)

I saw this in a shop almost next to Civic Boulevard (市民大道), just behind Taipei Main Station. It was just in the beginning of Taiyuan Rd. (太原路) or one of nearby parallel streets.

One of those typical old areas where you find a variety of shops, just about anything…
