Hiking Maps

I’m looking for maps that have hiking trails makred on them. Doesn’t matter if they’re only in chinese. Does anyone know where i can get this kind of thing? Cheers

For a 1:25000 series of 14 maps that cover the north from Sanxia to the top of the island go to Metro Oasis near the train station. Exit 2 at the MRT station, walk down to Zhongshan North Road, cross and turn left. MO just up the road. Be aware that trails get washed out all the time and just cause it’s on a map, it doesn’t mean it is still passable. If you are a newbie, don’t rely on maps. Nor a gps as they tend not to give any signal in Taiwan’s dense forests.

Maps from Taiwan Jiaotong Press (台北縣市近郊山圖). They also have maps of most of the high mountains. These usually come with a small carboard cover. In Chinese but include itineraries.

Yushan National Park has good maps available online now that you can download.

For waterproof maps of the 6 national trails restored by the forestry bureau go to Sanmin bookstores (三民網路書店) if MO doesn’t carry them.

For the north, pick up either volume of Taipei Day Trips by Richard Saunders or his new Yangmingshan, the Guide. The maps are handrawn but the text is super informative.

Hi –

Is this info still valid? Any new maps/sources?

Thanks –

Those excellent hiking maps are sold at those shops on Zhongshan Rd. mentioned above. Places like Ting San Iou and MetrOasis.

here’s a great set of maps ed.taipei.gov.tw/cgi-bin/SM_ … e=48367c89
you can’t find the maps on the english version of the website, only the chinese one. There’s a series of maps for each of the mountain ranges around Taipei city. Each Mountain range is listed down the left side of the page. You can download each in one big PDF file or a bunch of little ones. If you click on a mountain range to the left, on the right of the page will appear the links to the maps.
