Hitron Modem

so why don’t you use hinet? I never liked cable because lag issue is big there.

I just set it up.

And it’s a combo deal and I liked their service last time I used it.

I just didn’t know the current modem/router combo had these problems. It’s not like the guy at the store knows what I am talking about.

Hinet is also twice the price.

Lag issues aren’t from the cable, but the modem used.

No, I don’t think anyone can tell they are not related. You need Hinet to get MOD, and MOD is CHT.

Sorry. Hitron is the manufacturer of the modem.

My ISP is Taiwan Broadband 臺灣大寬頻

Also you gotta be careful with Hinet’s 100 Mbps plan, when you are too far away from their node, they will use VDSL2 Bonding which uses 2 VDSL lines aggregated together and the latency of both aggregates too.

Hinet doesn’t even service my area…

You can’t get MOD even if you wanted? The thing is you don’t need to get a landline from CHT when applying for MOD+Hinet.

They only had 60mbps when I asked when I moved in. So I cancelled after I moved outta Sansia.

The price would only go down by a bit, very little for a 40% reduction in service. I said no way and cancelled.

I’d do 60mbps no problem, but not for $859.

@hansioux
What is the model of your modem? Should be underneath the feet.

I don’t remember. The image I pulled is from the TBC website. My own router configuration page looks more like yours. I recently set up my router to bridge mode. I was trying to set up Home Assistant. I was able to toggle bridge mode in the LAN setup page.

Yeah, I could not find it for the life of me. But I am interested in the model number anyways to see if yours is Intel or Broadcom.

It’s on the sticker underneath the feet.

The broadcom ones don’t have the defect.

When I was at the old place in Shilin I had the 100M service and it had 2 lines, but I never noticed any issues either. Right now I have the 100M service but only 1 line.

In both cases I am not seeing any significant problems with lag. But sometimes I might have to jump start things a little. I can’t back out of my internet plan due to contracts, if I could save money on it then it would be helpful.

Couple of things to check - if there’s a firmware update option, it may be that it needs an update
Second is who you’re logged in as. If it’s a customer login the features may be limited and there may be a super duper admin login

I have access to an account named ‘admin’ but there is a possibility there is a superuser/root account.

Someone else also has the same problem. It remains unsolved.

This site has info on getting the older equipment to do it.

They are saying that with this modem you basically have to call and ask them to toggle it to bridge mode on their network switch.

Piece of crap anyways, I want a different one. I guess I’ll have to ask them if I can or cannot use a third party modem.

@Marco Did you ever get this figured out? I just had a Taiwan Mobile install today and they had to enable bridge mode remotely, but they were able to do it.

Yeah, I had a guy come in several times before they finally figured it out and then enabled it remotely.

What a pain in the ass it was. But it’s good and I’m back on my ASUS router with MY control over MY ports and MY VPN!

It was lovely. I had direct access to the Taiwanese web when I was in Canada.

What sorts of things would you not have access to without the VPN? I thought the Taiwanese web was open

It’s not that. It’s me being in Canada using the Taiwanese Internet. I also set one up in Canada at my mum’s house. I set VPNs from my houses…like… I’m the actual host of the VPN.

One, I can access my stuff like my data on my NAS devices.

Some sites in Taiwan and Canada block foreign traffic.

You can try it yourself. https://www.zehrs.ca

Zehrs and Loblaws are grocery stores. Can’t tell my mum to buy me some more of that Eat-More Toffee Peanut Chew. On sale? How would I know?

Canada Computers was blocking foreign traffic cause they were getting hits from overseas trying to buy GPUs at the height of the shortage crisis. Couldn’t help my cousin build a PC.

Kijiji shuts down ads if you use a foreign IP. I’m selling some of my old stuff in Canada.

Greater Taipei’s bus system blocks foreign traffic. Can’t help my friend who called me to ask how to get somewhere.

These are things where if someone asks for help, I can do.
