We’ve been in Taiwan just over 2 years now and my 2 teenage daughters have been doing online homeschool (we’re from the USA).
Question is, can my homeschooled daughter, who is now 18 and nearing completion of high school, get accepted into a Taiwan university? Will schools here accept her homeschool transcript? Just for reference, most universities in the USA cannot discriminate against homeschooled children when considering admitions.

Don’t kids have to take a university entrance exam to get into uni here? Maybe its different for non-Taiwanese-educated children, but then I’m guessing the kids will be considered overseas students and tuition fees will reflect that, i.e. much higher.
I can’t imagine how a kid not educated in the local system would be able to pass the university entrance exam.

No. You have to graduate from an Ministry of Education accredited or recognized school. If she’s Taiwanese, I think she can take an equivalency test when she’s 20 and then take the exams. Not sure if they would recognize a foreign equivalency test. They might.
If she has a US passport won’t the unis take her on as a foreign student and waive her fees? Or is that only at postgrad level?
That’s what I’m I’m wondering. Can she apply like other foreign students as an undergrad?
Would she even be able to follow all the content and do exams and stuff in chinese even if she was admitted? 2 years here is ok but especially reading and even more so writing chinese is hell… and if she is homeschooled that also doesnt sound like she came into contact with chinese enough to learn the language to a level sufficient to get into and through university here. maybe i am missing something…
Are you and your family planning on remaining in Taiwan? If not, I’d be hard pressed to think of a good reason why your daughters would benefit from attending a Taiwan college (other than remaining physically close to the 'rents, of course).
It is possible to be accepted to a university in Taiwan as a foreign student. My university has lots of students from other countries. Yes, there is a language requirement, but the university will help with that (but your daughters will have to have strong motivation to learn Chinese). I suggest you go to a local university in person and ask for the “international student office” and tell them your story. Here is an example of an international student office: thu.edu.tw/english/enindex.htm
I read through the procedures and it seems quite straightforward. Here is a quote about language: “Applicants should be proficient in the four skills (listening, speaking, reading,
and writing) of the Chinese language. If students are unable to keep up with
regular course work because of inadequate Chinese skills, they may be requested
to take remedial Chinese language lessons at their own expense in the Chinese -11-
Language Center”
I think the main thing you should check on yourself is how your children’s online/distance learning high school is accredited. Is it certified by a state government? You have to get it certified by the Taiwan office in the USA. I am not sure how to go about doing this, but it would be the same with any diploma from another country.
good luck! I think your daughters will have a great experience at a Taiwanese university!
What about universities that teach in English?
This one is accredited in the USA.
