♨ Hot Springs | Places in and Around Taipei

My recommendation is “Spring City Resort” in Beitou. springresort.com.tw/

Now I have to warn you: I am not very experienced with hotsprings. Once I tried this one, I didn’t try any others. If taking a set meal there, I recommend the Japanese one over the Chinese one by the way. I will watch closely what others recommend, though - still open to try something different if anyone says it is much better

As cranky says, budget? And do you have transport? I always recommend Tai’an in Miaoli as there are really lovely facilities, private and public, and great mountain views. Only 90 minutes from Taipei. Also you have the option of swimming in the river first and then hot springing after.

Yangmingshan is also good and the back road down to Jinshan. Wulai has some nice places. So does Beitou but water recycling is a problem there.

Jiaoxi is also good.

Probably a stretch on the budget but Landis in Wulai was quite nice and you can spend a whole day in Wulai, take the logging train to the tram up to the top of the mountain, there is an aboriginal amusement park/village at the top and an old street in Wulai with plenty snakcs.

Thanks a lot for the reply guys.

I asked her sister for help as i can’t really speak chinese (learning it slowly) and a lot of the sites were not available in english. We tried booking some rooms in Wulai but the ones we chose were booked, so we ended up booking a room in Jiaosi Township in Yilan County called Linju Hotsprings.

Just want to take my girlfriend somewhere relaxing as she gets back from a business trip on Saturday, and her family drivers her crazy (including me, i need a vacation during my vacation :loco: ). Will let you guys know how it was if anyone is interested.

Thanks a lot for the help. :notworthy:

Looking for any ideas of a place to take my wife for a weekend of hot spring tomfoolery. Surprise for her so I’m on my own trying to find one. I can find a lot online but I was wondering if anyone has any personal recommendations of an area to choose or better still, a hotel. I want to get out of Taipei so Beitou is out. Heading on a friday at 4 so 2 hours max drive.
I’d be particularly interested in any quiet out of the way spots. Doesn’t need to be convenient for walking. We’ll have the car.
Any ideas?

In two hours you are in Jiaoxi, unless there is a traffic jam in the tunnel(s) of Freeway 5.

There are quite a few hot-spring resort hotels there, the best known being http://www.hrjhotel.com.tw.

A bit closer to Taipei is the Tienlai Resort on the other side of Yangmingshan http://www.tienlai.com.tw/en/about-1.htm.

Or you can go to Wulai. Probably the best (and most expensive) hot-spring place there is http://www.springparkhotel.com.tw

Taian in Miaoli is a two hour drive. Cedarwood. Beautiful classy place. Been there a few times.

Taian also has really stunning scenery and at the end of the road (.5km) from Cedarwood you can walk along the river and find big pools for swimming in.

There is also Big Root outside Sanxia on the way to Full Moon Park.

Interesting coincidence, these are the ones I would of recommended. Tienlai works, get the new building in back, the buffet isn’t my favorite. Royal Chiao shi is maybe my favorite in Taiwan for an extreme exclusive getaway feeling.

Never been to Taian, but always wanted to check it out. Maybe that’s a bit more like what irishmoe had in mind.

My family are coming to visit in a few days, and we plan to go to a hot spring together.

I obviously don’t want to take them to a nude hot spring, and we’d much prefer to all be together.

I’ve asked a bunch of Taiwanese, including my wife and her parents, who seem to think that such a place doesn’t exist. I know for a fact that they do exist, but I can’t find any advertised online.

We’d also like to go to one of those fishing restaurants afterwords so if anyone knows a hot spring with a place like that nearby, bonus points.

Any recommendations?

Which Taiwanese do you know? This is not Japan. Nearly all hot springs here are open and with swimsuits.
Google Beitou hot spring near the library. extremely extremely cheap. Right near MRT station. Others are in Yangmingshan.
Down the east coast: Rueisui, Chiben, and tons more.

Actually they did all live in Japan for a long time, but they are Taiwanese, haha.

Thanks for the info, will take a look tomorrow.

Tien Lai is a nice place for a family trip. Hot spring, swimming pool, excellent views. Open-air hot spring-Yangmingshan Tien Lai Resort &SPA 陽明山天籟渡假酒店
Not sure what you mean by fishing restaurant. Do you mean those shrimp fishing pools?

There are no nude hot springs unless separated by gender so family cannot go together unless everyone in family is same gender male or female. Mixed gender hot springs require a bathing suit just like a swimming pool. Or unless a renting a private room.

I also like Tien Lai has indoor outdoor fun for kids and adults.

There is a string of shrimp fishing restaurants about 5 minutes driving past the National Palace Museum.

Many hot springs have rooms with a special hot spring tub in them. You pay more for a bit of privacy. Otherwise, just jump in the public pools in your swim suits. The public pool charges per person, so sometimes getting a hot spring room with 4 or more people ends up being cheaper.

I don’t have a lot of experiences with hot springs around Taiwan, but the key word here is 家庭湯屋. A few examples of the ones I found:

Thanks for all of your recommendations!

There’s a bunch near Yuli township in Hualien. I remember it being quite pleasant.

Isn’t hotspring basically just a 5 star love hotel and as such not really a place you want to take your family.

The hot springs I been to have thin walls and you often hear the neighbours banging

Well, sounds like you’ve been having fun, but the 5 star hotel had thin walls?

There are plenty of both around Taiwan. Love hotel definitely not necessarily 5 star, could just be a small room with water piped in. Lot’s of public hot springs in hot spring areas like YMS, Jiaoxi, Beitou, Wulai, Zhiben in Taitung, others.

I have a lot of great memories of Wulai hotels. :sunglasses:
