Anyone know any decently priced hotels near the airport in Kaohsiung (Gaoxiong) for a new visitor to Taiwan, just for one night?
The cheapest hotels in Gaoxiong are all near the train station. Just take the bus from the airport to the train station (which takes 30 minutes), and then walk around the train station, and you’ll see lots of cheap hotels on every narrow alley (but not on the big streets). Most of them are around NT$1000 per night.
The beds are usually as hard as a rock, but I’ve discovered that the beds are just as hard at the expensive hotels. So what I usually do is put three or four quilts on the bed, and then I sleep on top of the quilts instead of under the quilts.

One thing to be aware of is that many small cheap hotels charge by the hour as well as the night. I do know foreigners who have received late night knocks on the door offering ‘services’.
