how about it? it would be great. there are THOUSANDS of foriegners and english speaking locals who would love to tune in to some good conversation! radio forumosa! talk radio! all the time!
It woudl be great - but what would it be about?
History shows that we are always interested in Community radio. Can you think of a 20 minute show that we could podcast?
there could be sections throughout the day. it doesn’t have to be live. just a pre recorded stream that people FEEL is live, interrupted by correct time “the time is now 10:30”.
topics:
politics with richard hartzel
sports with ?
arts and entertainment with?
around taipei with?
all kinds of topics:
your health with?
maybe each mod could have his/her own show. 20 minutes each.
music:
any local/foriegner bands that wants their music played have to go thru smash or trash night. if it makes the cut, it gets on the play list. otherwise all other songs are chosen by someone with broad (not me, i;'m very narrow in my tastes) interesting tastes in music, some one with cutting edge tastes that will LEAD listeners not just pander to what is easily marketable.
a recording studio like this is NOT hard to set up. all on your hard disk. samson mics are cheap and good. a good sound card is all you need. you record all the audio into Cakewalk and EQ using the “announcer” preset. sounds just like ICRT. sound absorbers are sold at B&Q by the ping. cheap.
by the way, sound absorbtion doesn’t necessarily mean the whole room. you can make sound absorbers from a folding dressing screen, putting the absorbers on that and tuck it away so your room has multi use. no ugly!
mp3 test stream link worked perfectly.
It would be nice to have a podcast that showcased local music talent - mostly samples of their music plus some interview of the band members
This is something we could easily support. But it comes down to who would be the point person for this kind of thing.
It would not even have to be indefinite. We could, say, plan on 10 episodes, and then see if we can attract sponsorship for 10 more. The money would go half to the person making it happen and half to sustaining the podcast.
I hope Forumosa continues to be an “enabler” and helps foreign residents (read that: foreign bands) acheive what they want in Taiwan.
point man. hmmmm.
present health allowing… sounds like a calling to me. what would a point man have to do?

The potential local audience:
6000 teachers, 3000 businessmen, 3000 engineers, 1500 missionaries.
And lots of foreign spouses, though most are women from Vietnam.
Isn’t there some radio station on live365 going on already?
The Fred Smith Show?
Damned shame this never took off.
I’ll do it if everyone can wait until Feb or so. It would also be a good way to promote a blog a fellow Flobbian and I are planning. Regular guest host on the radio program would have to be JimiP. And drinks at ready.
I was going to put my hand up, too, MilkTeaJack. Why did this project never get off the ground? Limited market? ![]()

Fascinating, but long, thread.
That’s it. I’m going to kidnap myself and text MaoMan, demanding a ransom of at least NT$100! Or more! The guy is loaded! (So, this free radio thing, it means free as in “it costs nothing”, right? Right?)
I can’t believe you read all of it.
More useful and maybe relevant: whatsupintaiwan.blogspot.com/
and they’d be tuning off just as quickly as they tuned in.
