How do I say "thread lock" in Chinese?

Hello. Me again.
Can anyone tell em how to say “thread lock” in Chinese?

I’m not talking about what mods do, I’m talking about the glue you put on the end of a bolt.

Thanks again,
Stu

Just use pantomime.

I tried that. I did this spirally movement with my finger, and then I suddenly froze. Even after I hadn’t moved for ten minutes, they still just looked confused. Useless gits.

I know not, but I’ll let you in on a trick for Googling it. Type “thread lock” and add the Chinese word for bolt or screw, luo2si1 螺絲 . This technique, of typing the English term, plus a Chinese character or term likely to be found in the translation or alongside it, often brings up pages with bilingual terminology, in this case yielding this:
http://www.Fastener.hk 鋼牙 自攻 六角頭木牙 石膏板螺絲 材質包括 電鍍 及 304 / 316不銹鋼
Search ResultsTitan Anaerobic Adhesive - 螺絲固定劑Thread lock Adhesive
So it’s probably known as 螺絲固定劑 luo2si1 gu4ding4ji4, or ‘screw-bolt fixative-stabilizer chemical’.

Before the trolls jump in and accuse me of it, I’m not saying “Google, don’t ask us”, btw – it’s still valuable to get confirmation from people of actual usage here in Taiwan, as this kind of Googling sometimes turns up usage from elsewhere, or something obsolete or non-colloquial which someone got out of a dictionary. I’m just sharing a tip which has proven useful to me in the past.

Not sure if you’re looking for the stuff or just need to know the name… I’m not certain of the official name, but I’ll ask my engineer buddy when I see him later today… I just call it luo wen jiao : 螺紋膠 (lit: thread glue) and people know what I’m talking about, but usually have no clue where to get it or why anyone would go to the trouble of using it…

[EDIT: Google seems to confirm the common usage is indeed 螺紋膠…]

Happily, after searching for the stuff for almost 10 years and bringing back bottles of it from trips abroad I eventually found decent temporary thread lock glue in small (and huge) bottles at the good old electronics shop… non branded green transparent goo like this… cheap too…

Thanks, DB. Unfortunately I don’t even know the Chinese for bolt, but I appreciate your reply.

Thanks, Plasma. My second question was going to be where to find it. Cheers.

I’ve been putting that stuff on my pancakes.

It shows.

Sweet, the local tool shop had some thread lock, in a totally unidentifiable bottle, just like Plasmatron said. 100nt for more than I’ll ever use.

Thanks again!

(feckers didn’t have a torque wrench though)

Yes, get everyone to shout “he’s behind you!” and hiss when Stu’s enemy (the boss) comes into sight

Also use loads of innuendo in this case about being covered in glue.

A word of caution though:

I’ve been buying my thread lockers from HuanHe rd (from Ximending towards the river, small shops right next to the floodwall).
There are couple different items available, the green/blueish goo (as in the Plasmatron’s photo) should be non-permanent (bigger bottle, about 300cc, has English instructions), and other colored stuff (black or red) should be permanent.

So if you end up using permanent stuff, be prepared to use heat if you have to open that bolt again

Locktite has Red (permanent, removable with heat) and Blue (non-permanent, removable with hand tools) but I’ve never seen these here.

Hey Overflow. That’s great information, thanks. I don’t suppose you have an address for the place that sells blue thread lock, do you?

maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source= … 08883&z=17

Cannot remember exactly which shop but right about there, if you take Kaifong street from Jhonghua road, you can see several small shops on Huanhe road.
