I just saying pedestrians act they way they do because they’ve been abused for so long. We can’t blame the victim and we can’t punch down either.
I totally agree they shouldn’t run and they should pay attention but I understand why they do it.
The police officer was there and didn’t do anything!
Do the cops here even have monthly ticket quotas?
I was told it is yearly
#BanTaiwaneseDriversAndPedestrians ?
In other words

Yeah, a tabula rasa sounds more practical, considering… where’s Haussmann when you need him?
Am a bit apprehensive though, as current reconstruction trends seem to slant towards levelling by tank.
An 86 year old man in New Taipei in SanxXia old street is hit by a car who performs a U-turn in a narrow straight and as he’s straightening out accelerates into the old man who’s walking in the road. The driver is unlicensed. Max fine possible is 25,800NTD. Also driver crossed the double yellow by doing the U-turn.
Should be minimum 4x that, all things considered
Yes this one is clear as day. 25K is a joke hopefully the driver gets sued and has to pay for all medical expenses, reduced quality of life etc.
So do they just ticket you and let you drive on?
Vehicle should have been towed and impounded.
A crossing guard tries to block traffic for a couple of little kids to cross on the crosswalk. 2 scooters try to go around the crossing guard. The crossing guard is only able to stop one of them.
Girl stuck in the middle of the intersection as many scooters fail to yield. Even the scooters that yield, they start accelerating as soon as she walks right in front of their scooter meaning they end up passing behind very close to her…
Funny short video. Walking on the side of the road the police can randomly decide you are walking in the road so as you can see there is a wide wall so the pedestrian should walk on the wall.
Another short cartoon about pedestrian hell (all Chinese)
Weird situation in Kaoshiung, apparently in Gangshan district near XiuTai. The cutout area for parking is now allowed to park…and the sidewalk for pedestrian has parking spot lines painted on it to allow scooters to park.
I do not have the research skills or command of granular detail like @lunlan has in this thread. But I am sitting on an idea, and wonder if some talented forumosans can bring this idea to fruition, and distribute.
Everyone knows the iconic cover to the Beatles’ Abbey Road, right?
Is anyone able to make a modified image, let’s call it “THE BEATLES IN TAIWAN,” in which said Beatles are cut off or mowed down by Taiwan’s aggressive drivers?
If done well, I think this modified image of my dreams has the potential to be a game changer. ![]()

like this one?

As far as I know, the Beatles’ back catalogue has not been acquired by Sanrio Corporation. ![]()

The page for organizing the protest/event and sharing information seemed to do a picture with this in mind. Although I’ve seen the album cover brought up a few times when discussing pedestrian safety…and what would happen if they took that album photo in Taiwan.

Car doesn’t yield to pedestrians when they are crossing so cop on a scooter watching the intersection gives chase…immediately after still have a couple of scooters that don’t yield…one which almost hits the pedestrians.
Driver slowly creeps forward through a red light then starts accelerating, almost hitting a pedestrian.
Car overtaking the turn lane car turning who is yielding to a dog crossing on the crosswalk. Car almost hits the dog.
Tesla driver turns into wrong side of the road…even after realizing he went the wrong way…he keeps driving slowly weaving between oncoming cars. wtf
Scooter runs a red light but stops right before the crosswalk. Then proceeds to drive through the intersection after a few seconds. Immediately gets chased by a cop on a scooter.
Lady drives up and on the sidewalk maybe to try and get to the intersection faster or beat traffic…she ends up getting there the same time as everyone else and stuck behind one of those old people with cars collecting recyclables.
Many vehicles don’t stop for a ambulance with its sirens on…
Can we blame them? They were late to eat some crap in Tamsui´s waterfront. The ambulance was just arriving at the hospital anyway. Priorities.
Report about the height differences in the sidewalk, broken pieces of sidewalk, pieces that are already loose and you can pick up. I wonder how much cost is added from scooters and cars driving/parking on the sidewalks with their increased weight that wears out and damages the sidewalk quicker than just people walking. In this news piece its mostly showing old people since it’s probably harder for them to pick up there feet…but I mean there are TONS of old people everywhere in Taiwan and having a decent quality sidewalk isn’t too much to ask…is it?
ZhonhgHua Rd. in Toufen got a pedestrian island at one of the crossings.
